I just have a few minutes here at the library to be online...just wanted to let everyone know we are safe and sound in Montgomery AL at Maxwell AFB. We are in temp. housing, a 3 bedroom, 2 bath furnished apt. Nick is only 4 hours away and came up last weekend and will be here tomorrow as well. We joined the YMCA (free membership to hurricane victims) so have been swimming and exercising every day which helps pass the time and tire the girls out for bed. The house is coming along, NIck will start painting next week-then the week after will be cabinets, carpets and flooring. THen we can put the house on the market and plan our escape...it looks like we will be heading to San Antonio TX in December.
Now for the bad news, I got a phone call from my dad on MOnday that my mother attempted suicide SUnday morning. She has not been in the best physical or mental health the last few years but this still comes as a shock. She is safe, my dad was a ble to get her to the er in time. SHe currently is in a psych. hospital for the next few weeks and then will come home. My dad said he didn't want me or my sister to come home right away-there really wasn't anything we could do with her still in the hospital. BUt I am just devastated-worried, angry, and feeling a little guilty as well. I was just there-shouldn't I have seen this coming? And all the bad, angry thoughts I was feeling towards her...I can't write much more, I'm in a public library with my kids-but when I'm alone I just cry and cry. Prayers for my mom and dad would be appreciatied. And for me, too, my stress level is so high and I am crabby, yelling at the girls, etc. etc.
Nick will be here tomorrow, so I'll try to come back alone and can update some more. Thank in advance for all your help and support.

A friend of mine went through this several years ago. No one realized how unhappy his mom was until it was almost too late. Now she's doing much better, taking care of her grandbaby part time...there is hope for your mom, Jennifer, don't worry!

Jennifer, we're praying for you and your parents. Please don't flog yourself on this, you've had so much handed to you recently that, no, you wouldn't have necessarily seen anything coming. Mental imbalance is so complicated and confusing. My sister suffered from severe depression and none of us glommed onto it, not even her husband. We just thought she was "down". It was a long road to recovery, including hospitalization in a mental facility, but thanks be to God she is 100%fine now, and has been for many years. You'd never imagine she had been thru all that to meet her-she's so much fun. And in her case, her problem all evolved because her first husband had committed suicide and she suffered guilt and depression as a result-she never saw it coming with her husband, either. People are so complicated, you simply can't read minds, even the minds of people you *think* you can read like a book! So, please absolve yourself. Even if you had angry thoughts with your mother, doesn't mean you don't love her! Usually, our angriest thoughts are directed towards those we love the most, because they know how to press our buttons.
You are doing a great job, under difficult circumstances. Crying is allowed. Hang in there. We'll all pulling for you and your mom.
