Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Freinds,
I just wanted to share our day today.
Today we attended a funeral for a baby boy, five months old. It was a beautiful funeral in many ways. Jonathon Bernard was born five months ago when his mother was just over half way through her pregnancy.

Baptised and Confirmed at birth he became a miracle baby. The fact that he survived thus far was incredible. He touched the lives of many. He had many of the nursing staff talking about God. In his short little life he had so many operations.

Jonathon was the seventh child born into a devout Catholic family. I grew up 2 doors from his Daddy. Jonathon's family homeschool as do all his cousins.

It was a totally unique funeral. There must have been 70 children there. Every family had at least six children each. His parents were incredible, they were giving us strength. There was a table were the children all lay cards, I read one written by his cousin, "Dear Jonathon, please pray for all the little babies from Heaven."

Three priests officiated. His grandfather did the readings. Some of his siblings did the offertry. His little 11yr old sister sang Salve Regina at the end of Mass. The hymns were all beautiful. It was heartbreaking seeing his daddy gather up the little coffin and carry it out.

Out at the graveyard they took the lid back off the coffin and all the children went up and gathered around some of them stroking his face. They all stayed like this for ages. There must have about 50 children gathered around. Then his uncles lowered him in and the childen dropped in the rose petals. Then they all sat around the hole looking down on his coffin for about half an hour, jsut chatting and kneeling all around. They were all so natural.

Father K told me the funeral directors were absolutley amazed. His aunty was telling me that when one of her daughters saw her crying she said, "Why are you crying mummy, Jonathon is in Heaven."

I'm not writing coherently here, I'm getting very tired. I just wanted to share our incredibly blessed day. So sad and yet so beautiful.

Thanks be to God for our faith. Because of our love for the Savior, there is beauty and hope in suffering and sorrow.

Meredith,
One friend gave the mother a card with 'St Jonathon pray for us' written on the front of the card. The mother had a nice laugh there on the church steps. Isn't it lovely how in the sad moments you find a joy in the funniest things.
