Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My poor dh has not gotten one package from me. I told him, I'm too busy raising his children, mowing the lawn, hauling dirt and.........to go to the post office. With Father's Day coming up, we have some things to send him. What I'm wondering about is this.....I have heard that the post office has boxes at reduced postage to send to the troops. Do I have to pack the box there, or can I pack the box there. Do they need to look and see what I'm mailing him? Cheezit's, a light for his bike and the Rosary book recommended here, not that you really care, I'm just rambling

The post office is not on my normal route so I want to know what I'm getting into before I go. I don't want to make multiple trips because it won't get mailed if it is not easy.

Thanks

Hi Mary Chris, I was just at the USPS site looking for info on shipping plants... so I went ahead and looked for you:

Priority Mail APO/FPO Flat Rate Box

Addressing Tips

Mailing Restrictions

And I don't know if they're still doing this since this is dated 10/07, but it's about a "Mili-Kit"

Thanks Stef....that is a lot easier than driving to the post office. I'll check out those links.

Mary Chris,

We received TODAY a letter from a friend on an aircraft carrier, dated 4/25. Sometimes things go awry. Send it anyway...just tell him the date you sent it, so he knows...the same friend sent his wife a Mother's Day card and it got here in 5 days. APO/FPO mail is what it is...military!

When you do go to the post office, pick up a couple of extra boxes and customs forms (they are the time consuming thing!). Set a box up on your counter or table, and add things as you think of it until it's full. (Does your church sell Catholic magazines? Or, you can toss in issues of mags you've read.)

The most popular things to receive are...DVDs, magazines, and non-crushed food. Pringles mail well, and you can use empty cans for cookies, too. Everyone swaps around their DVDs because on-ground time is either Totally Boring or Way Too Busy. Have the kids make a card or draw a picture for Dad.

My dh suggests checking the anyservicemember website for seasonal suggestions - the climate is so extreme that you definitely have to think about what you're sending. (Airplanes can't take off in the daytime from the Persian Gulf countries' airports - it's too hot.)
