Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm just curious--do any of you hesitate about putting your opinions "out there"? Especially if you think some friends/family may read the blog? Or do you just plug ahead, saying what you want(as if it were a completely private journal)? Or is it somewhere in between, a fine line between saying nothing, and saying too much?

Just wondering, since DH has been encouraging me to start one of my own...

Rachel

My blog is basically a journal of our day to day "happy times". My family is always on my blog to keep track of whats going on around here, so I keep it fun- no controversy here.

That said, I definitely make sure anyone who comes to my blog knows that we are a Roman Catholic Family, who follows Rome, and has always welcomed children.

I do think before I add some things to my blog, knowing "everyone" is reading.

Well, see, I know my parents won't check it. My sisters *might*...DHs family is more likely...

I'm thinking that if I do start one, then I won't advertise it to the family. I mean, if some people I know want to read it, that's fine, but I'm not going to put it out there for my nearest and dearest, iykwim.

Anyway, given that DHs family and mine neither one are devout Catholics (although DH is a cradle Catholic, I'm a convert, and most of his siblings have long since left the Church one way or another), I'm sure I'd raise some hackles with "something", somewhere along the way.

More to think on...

Rachel

I don't have a problem with it. I've nothing to hide from anyone, especially family, and I have never hesitated to speak my mind freely anyway.

I started my blog to keep family and friends updated on what's going on with us. I've pretty much stuck to that and the opinions I give are mostly on whether or not we liked a movie...

I'm all for "keeping it real" i.e. life and kids aren't perfect but try to be careful about how much personal information I post. Personality has a lot to do with it, as well. I've seen a lot of "conversion" stories of late and while I appreciate reading others' stories, I'd never write about those things myself. I'm more private about my feelings so, if I were to write like that it wouldn't be "real" for me. Same goes for emotionally written labor/birth stories, "open letters" to my family telling them how much they mean to me, etc.

My blog is kind of like a combination of an online scrapbook of what my family does and a journal of stuff I think about. I write about my feelings, good and bad. I don't think I write any of my opinions that could be controversial. I'm not into that. I usually keep those to myself in real life too.

I have told my family and friends about my blog and I was surprised to find that most of them are not interested in reading it.    My father and my sister are my only regular readers.

I am working on a personal blog apart from my main blog, which is about my family. I wanted a place where I could record my thoughts and opinions without taking away from Remembering today. I feel it is a better venue for discussing everything from homeschooling to politics.

This is a great question, and one I have thought about, being pretty new in the blogging world. Most of our immediate family are not practicing the faith in any consistent, serious kind of way. That being said, I am not sure how they would react to some of the thoughts I want to express on my blog. I am sure they know, just from our home life and how we are raising our children, that we are trying to live our faith more deeply than the way we were brought up in it. I don't want to be conroversial on my blog, and had planned to have it be about our daily comings and goings. I am hoping to post some things like our favorite family recipes and such. But the recent death of my Dad has caused me to be a bit more introspective, so I have serious and lighter topics randomly mixed in there. Sometimes my posts are going to be about something that is on my heart in a particular way that day, and may also be somewhat controversial... in a way it is cathartic to think that maybe my closest family members may come to a better understnding of who I really am. Possibly a little evangelizing happening, and some conversation openers. I guess time will tell... if I stop getting invited to family parties, I'll know why!

I express my opinions. Actually my blog is usually more about politics than homeschooling. However, when I initially sent out my address to my family and friends I put out a comment stating that I have strong opinions and to be aware.
