We are headed on a road trip in about 10 days. One of our stops in Washington, DC. I'm planning on a stop at the Basilica of the National Shrine to the Immaculate Conception. I don't know how much my oldest can handle it, but he can always go outside with dh. My girls will love it. How long do you think I should plan for this? Is there anything else besides the monuments (which we've done before) to see right around the area. I'm planning on only half a day for this.

We are also headed to Manassas to visit some friends. Anything else we can see near there?

We went to the Basilica and it was so beautiful! We were only able to stay for an hour (we were there with my dad who walked around outside and I'm sure grumbled a lot because we were only supposed to be in there for 30 min). The hour was not nearly enough time! I really wanted to go to Mass there and really spend time in the different chapels. There is a nice gift shop that I literally had to run through to get postcards (and a scapular!) because my dad was rushing us so much so we could get back on the train. I would have liked to browse through there longer. I am hoping we can go back there someday.
