Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Anyone receive the latest (May/June) issues of Victoria Magazine?

The "Chimes" piece on the last page is entitled The Last Gilded Cup by Perle Champion. The essay is regarding the writer using the gilded porcelain china set that were her mother's treasure, passed on to her. She is now using the last remaining teacup.

Her mother never used them, but in traveling and packing the cups have broken one by one, so the daughter received them from her mother, "It should be ours. I was afraid they'd break, so I only ever used them once, and still they broke one by on. I know you'lluse it and not be afraid."

I thought of the many conversations here about about having tea time, or special feast day or family celebrations and actually using the good china instead of just looking at it and saving it for "that special occasion."

Having china to me is about making and evoking memories, not preserving it for posterity.

Do you use your china? Does it have special meaning? Family heirloom, sentimental value, very valuable? Do you portray any of it's uniqueness to the children? And do they perceive it's special quality and are more careful?

How often do you use them? For what occasions?
