With the warm weather upon us, my thoughts naturally turn to the summer. What are you planning to do this summer?
My husband's family has rented a cottage for a week in Holland, Michigan. This should be very enjoyable as all of the adults and cousins will be together. I also look forward to exploring the west side of Michigan (we moved here less than a year ago). We'll try and visit as many places as possible before the birth of my next baby in August.

Holland is a cute area, I went there on a business trip pre-kids and enjoyed it. Have fun!
I think we'll rent a beach house or a lake cabin this summer for a week or two ... haven't decided where yet or even discussed it with the hubby ... but it's literally been years since we did anything fun like that and I NEED a vacation, as do my kids. We just never make the time!

This trip doesn't count as a summer trip, but we're traveling with my family to Florida at the beginning of May to attend my niece's college graduation and stay in a beach house for a week. Then in August my parents rented a cottage on Conesus Lake in upstate New York, intending that we kids and our families would rotate in and out during the week. My dad has fond memories of that lake, having grown up fairly close by, so I think it's important to him that he share it with us. So those two trips and baseball and swim team will keep us plenty busy!

We are staffing a short term mission trip to General Cepeda, Mexico and are hoping to extend our trip with a pilgrimage to Guadalupe and then a stay on Mexico's Pacific coast.
In our at home time, we'll tend our garden and swim in the mornings and work on handcrafts and art and music in the heat of the afternoons.

Our plans are still not firmed up - we kind of have to wing it around baseball games and playoffs.
We are hoping to go visit my parents in Eastern Oregon over the 4th of July. We haven't been there for that holiday in about 15 years. It is a fun time to visit as they have a big rodeo and Suicide Race (horse race down a steep mountainside and through the river) that my younger kids have never seen.
A couple times a year my husband teaches weekend computer classes for a university's distance learning program. He is scheduled for one in August in a small town outside of Glacier National Park. We are planning to tag along.

Moving! That should take up most of it. And then just exploring around our new home.

We are headed up to the mountains for a family reunion with ALL of dh's six siblings, their spouses and all the kids. And the grandparents, too! We will be camping for a week here.
I can't wait!

Stay cool, do some art and music with the kids (our summer focus), stay cool, have Margaret Frances around 7/16, stay cool, go to huge family reunion (in 2001, my Helen was the 102nd descendant of my grandparents),stay cool, go to my niece's wedding in early Sept.
God bless,
Mary-NY (where it is in the 80's this week!)

Have a baby Before that, nest. Continue our "formal" home education probably with new subjects/curriculum rather than waiting till September. Possibly prepare for selling our house and moving, but that depends on a lot of things. Maybe we'll be able to fit in an overnight by the beach, probably in Delaware or Maryland. We've also talked about the Family-Centered Learning Conference as a possible centerpiece for a short vacation, as the nearby train stuff would keep my husband and sons well entertained while I was at the conference. So much depends on finances though. I'll be happy to have a frugal summer preparing our home for baby, if we can't manage anything extra.

We're moving, too. Hopefully to someplace that wants to employ my husband if not, then at least to some place less expensive than our beloved DC. But we are taking a big roadtrip to the Midwest in about a month with stops in Pittsburgh, Chicago, Sturgeon Bay, Madison, and the Twin Cities. We haven't done this trip (to dh's family) in two years and we are really looking forward to it. We love road trips and I think our kids are a good age for it this year, too.

We're spending the summer in FL with my parents and family before moving to Jersey in Oct. It's going to be so hot. So, we'll be schooling throughout the summer but also getting together with my cousins and their children. And of course, hit the beach a few times.
