Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

When does this usually begin? How do you experience it? Have you noticed any difference when pregnant with a girl or a boy?

Honestly I don't think I "nested" during my first two pregnancies, with boys. I was nearly a different person with #1 and with #2 I was preoccupied with anxiety and research about the birth itself. And as you will find if you keep reading, I'm not the most aesthetically-oriented person to begin with.

For various reasons, I feel like I have the physical limitations of someone much further on in pregnancy, so I'm not scrambling around doing a lot of the things I think about, but my interest in not only cleanliness and neatness but aesthetics has really surged lately. To a large extent it's about home comfort and appearance, but even personal appearance is mattering more to me. So I'm curious if this is the whole "nesting" thing finally happening to me! I'm 21 weeks today, with a girl.

Yesterday we were outside while my husband was finally installing our new outside light that we only bought like last summer, which I haven't usually thought was worth the time. I actually noticed the general dirtiness of our siding. Usually if I even noticed it myself I'd be like, "Oh no, is someone going to notice that and complain? What does that look like from the sidewalk? Can they use the HOA to make us spend time and money so they don't have to see dingy siding?"

Instead, I was sorry that it couldn't be washed right then and that I probably won't be able to help much physically with the work, yet I pictured myself eagerly pitching in as able. I did as much decluttering for our special trash pickup Monday as I could physically handle, and suggested that my husband use some "free task time" to move boxes of books that he's wanted to move for ages from one room to another.

And I find myself thinking about things like how I could make my nails have a neat shiny look without problematic chemicals... whereas I usually fail to notice (I wouldn't be surprised if others do) that my nails have broken off to all different lengths and shapes. $17 for a haircut doesn't seem so exorbitant and worth procrastinating about as it usually does... and so on.

I think I nest every time. It starts in the 2nd trimester after my nausea goes away. I have not noticed any difference between being pregnant with boys or girls. I usually have an idea in my head (or on paper) of the things I would like to get done before the new baby arrives, than I go at in spurts. It's like I get a huge amount of energy in intervals, but it's not every day.

Well I always tend to nest, I'm currently 17 weeks. My dc are cringing every time I say "I've been thinking" They are like "Oh no, what are you going to throw out now."
I will wax and wane throughout the pregnancy dependent on energy levels. I know I will nest stronger towards the end.

What I am currently is irritable, dh said "You're just so touchy at the moment." Its true.

I always thought that "nesting" referred to that period about a month to a few weeks before the baby is coming when women do crazy cleaning projects that they would never consider otherwise, like cleaning your washer and dryer with q-tips or re-arranging the living room furniture at the last minute.

I think part of it is you start to go into panic mode that you're about to undergo a major life change, and it gets channeled into getting your home ready. I always tend to worry, too, about how the house will run while I'm in the hospital and for the company (my parents) who will stay here at that time. I'm an over-thinking/over-planner anyway, so nesting just kicks me into overdrive.
