Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My dh retires from the Air Force June 1, 2009 (where's the little jumping up and down guy!); a little over a year from now and we are considering moving to NOVA. I'm from Nokesville and my family lives there, Manassas and in Bealeton. We're looking at housing areas and wondering what your advice would be as to where to move? Where are there good Catholic homeschool groups? Good communities? We know the housing market is high pretty much everywhere there. What about Culpepper, Warrenton, Fredricksburg, Bealeton?

Also, do you think having two daughters from China would be a problem there? Would they fit in?

Any advice would be so appreciated.

Thanks!

Lisa - there are two very active homeschool groups in the Manassas area. One at All Saints in Manassas and another at the new parish Holy Trinity in Gainesville!! Not sure about Fburg etc. And yes, it's expensive... although going down! And sure they'd fit in. DC area is a melting pot of all sorts of people!

I KNOW!!!!    There are so many of you who live there it makes it more and more appealing!! Of course, being from there and having all my family there helps, too!

So where do all of you ladies from NOVA live anyway?

We're all over! And even being in VA doesn't mean it's easy to see each other. I'm in Manassas, and seem to be a minority.

I'm an hour south of Jenn. I don't get to see anyone either.

I'm in Gainesville-- love it! I was just talking with my mom on the phone a minute ago, and we were lamenting the fact that we live so far apart, but I couldn't leave, esp. to go back to upstate ny (nothing personal, anyone!)

I sure don't take offense to that - I live in northern NY and would love nothing more than to move back down south. Both DH's and my families all live in Virginia and North Carolina. We miss them and are tired of the 12 - 16 hour drives to see anyone. Maybe someday....

I live in Loudoun County and really like my neighborhood and parish. But, if I were to do it all over again, I'd be tempted to live in the Gainesville/Bristow area and belong to Holy Trinity Parish. (Dh's brother and family live out there and belong to that parish, as do quite a few members of this forum.) There are just lots more Catholic homeschoolers out that way and housing prices are a bit lower than where I am. And gas prices are lower, which can really help these days!

Also, there is a big group in Warrenton too associated with St. John's Parish. They do weekly classes and have an amazing drama group. So basically anywhere in Western PW (I don't know anything about the Woodbridge area really) and Fauquier you are going to be taken care of really well!!!

Plus this could be a great time to buy as this area has a lot of foreclosures. On my street I have heard there are 2!

This is so fun to hear of all the hs'ing groups in NoVA! 20 years ago when my SIL was just starting out (living in F'burg) there were just a handful down that way and not much between there and the beltway!

We're getting so excited -- but there's still so darn much to do!
