The bluebonnets here in Texas are waning. They are usually around for about 6 weeks.

I took the camera out Sunday for some pics, but none of the boys wanted to join me, so it ended up being just me and the flowers (and a few very small critters)...

I had originally posted this on the Va Bluebells thread, then realized that I didn't want to appear to be hijacking it.

I have heard about those Texas bluebonnets.   They are spectacular.

If they are lupins (look like 'em) we get them in fringes along the roadside here in the California Sierras.

My boys would skim the bluebonnet photos and fasten in on the little critter you have in the forefront of the third pic.

Fabulous photos! It's cheery to see such pretty flowers. Any flowers here (besides crocus and daffodils) are still many weeks away!

Tho not as easy to spot, there is a fat, winged insect (most likely a bumblebee) flying away in the 1st pic, and a spider atop the bluebonnet in the 2nd pic.

I didn't even realize the spider was there until I got home and brought the pics up on the computer. The old "blind squirrel" expression definitely applies to my photographic abilities here.

I did see the bumble bee right off, but hadn't noticed the spider. It's like a "Hidden Picture" activity!

So beautiful! This makes me homesick! I used to love the bluebonnets every Spring!

The pictures are just lovely, but what I really liked best was picture number 4, with the buttercups. I so miss those big buttercups! Fond childhood memories. They aren't as common or as big here in VA.

Wow-zee!
They're lovely. Thanks for sharing, Tim.

We have tons of buttercups along our roadways but I didn't even think of the bluebonnets until I saw a picture my cousin (lives in the Woodlands) took of her three children surrounded by bluebonnets last year. And I told myself we needed to go see them this year.

Now, if I could only justify a trip to Houston before another gas hike increase.

I LOVE the bluebonnets. It's always so funny to watch moms with their children pulled over on the shoulder taking pictures. It's a rite of passage! Just watch out for the fire ants. We have not done this yet. I hope to this year.

Cay, I lived in the Woodlands before we moved to CO a couple months ago! Isn't it beautiful? The wild flowers there were just spectacular....

Beautiful pics Tim! So tell me...will you make the kids sit in the middle of them and take a picture at some point like every other person on the side of the road?

Yes, beautiful!
When we want to live the "good" life, we leave our little country dwelling and go to my cousin's.

By "good life", I'm talking Market Street!!!

That's my equation of making sure my country children have some "culture".

We have been back in "bluebonnet country" (central/east Texas) since '99 and usually find a weekend to go take pictures when they are in bloom.

My favorite location was a piece of property north of town owned by an oil/gas company. It was a wide open field with no buildings on it and was simply covered in wildflowers. This was in '04:

Here are a couple of my favorites from last year:
