Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Oh gosh, that is right in our backyard! Unfortunately, our backyard will be packing up and moving to Alaska in June!

Lisa -- The whole Blue Ridge area is gorgeous. Asheville is a lovely town in and of itself. You can hop on the Blue Ridge parkway and take some beautiful drives; Great Smoky Mountains National Park is not far away; the Biltmore House is fascinating (but not inexpensive, as I recall -- we toured it on our honeymoon!); I can't think of more specific things off the top of my head, but Asheville is a great base for a family vacation, and there's tons to do all up and down that end of the state.

Blowing Rock, which is to the north, is a fun destination -- there's the Tweetsie Railroad amusement park and other family-type stuff to do. There's a cavern you can tour in Linville (Linville Caverns). Poet Carl Sandburg's home, Flat Rock, is open for tours (just outside Hendersonville, NC).

Anyway, I wish I were going to this conference, but our summer is very up in the air. I seem to be going to the Steubenville youth retreat in mid-July, and that's the only thing I know about the whole summer! But NC is so great -- those mountains are one of my favorite places on earth. I'm sure you can find lots of great stuff to do for a family holiday.

Sally

(who has spent MANY vacations in NC!)

Well, Sally just about covered it. I would definitely add Great Smoky Mountains National Park to the list.

God willing, we'll be in OK by then, and hopefully mostly unpacked...

Sorry! (and we're hours away from there anyway)

Oh, my story. In a nutshell...
We live in NC, but are moving to AK in June. Dh is already there and the kids and I have spent 2 summers there. We are anxiously waiting for dd to graduate high school so we can move and be reunited with dh. This is a move that has been in the works for years and I am soooo ready for it to happen.
