Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I think this was the intent of Lisbet's other thread on Mother Culture: just listing the things we all *do* for our mother culture.

I would be interested in seeing lists of the various activities you do that are considered mother culture as well as how you practically work them into your routine.

For instance, I enjoy handicrafts but haven't indulged in years since I can't figure how to get the "mess" out and put away without my active boys getting a hold of it.

Also, are these things routines in your day or things you remember to squeeze in during stressful times (or perhaps a little bit of both?).

I AM given to sloth, unlike some mothers here, but it seems that if "properly applied" it might help guard against sloth--maybe if used as a self given "reward." Any other sloths out there who are successful at getting their work done AND their play?

I...
-knit
-bake
-pray and read a devotional (too patchy here though)
-play Ultimate Frisbee weekly
-grocery shop alone
-started having monthly Knitting Nights here with friends

That's all I can think of now. It was getting back into knitting that really brought some more joy back into my life and subsequently my children's lives. That mom had a hobby that was separate from mothering/cleaning/teaching was very important. I haven't looked back...

(I am also given to sloth in the form of a deep bath and a good book or ball of great yarn)

My most recent Mother Culture:
Knitting and yarn gazing,a puppy (he's a few months old now and a cheerful fellow), a morning phone call with my sister as I load the dishwasher,a glass of red wine in the evening with at least a few parragraphs of whatever I am reading--lately the Pinetree Garden seed catalogue, The Monks of New Skete Dog books, and an odd novel.
