Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My favorite non coffee treats at Starbucks are Toffee Almond Bars and Molasses Cookies. Does anyone have tried and true recipes for either????????

I want to add to Mary Chris' list: my favorites are the cinnamon scones and the chocolate chip scones. Any good/close substitutes?

Here is my English Scone Recipe

2 C flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1tsp baking soda
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
4 Tbsp CHILLED butter, cut into pieces
3/4 C milk, more like scant 1 C
Up to 1/2 C of any add-in you choose: chopped dried apricots, chopped crystalized ginger, raising, chocolate chips, nuts, fresh or frozen blueberries, dried cranberries, etc. The add-ins go in just before kneading the dough at the end of the preparation.

1 Preheat oven to 450. Grease a baking sheet or use a stone.
2. In a food processor, combine dry ingredients. Pulse to combine. Add the butter and pulse on and off until the mixture resembles coarse corn meal. Transfer to a bowl.
If not using a food processor, stir together dry ingredients, then cut in butter using two knives or a pastry blender.
3. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the milk. Using a fork, mix UICKLY until a soft elastic dough forms.
4. Turn out onto a lightly floured work surface and knead 5-6 times until dough is smooth. Press out to 3/4" anc cut using a biscuit or cookie cutter, 3" cutter works well. Transfer to baking sheet/stsone.
5. Bake until scones rise and are golden brown on top, about 10 minutes.

My dc like the scones at Starbucks, I will have to make these soon and see if they are an acceptable replacement. I think you can buy cinnamon chips.
