Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just received as a gift a new VitaMix machine. This was unexpected, and not something I really want or need, and at first all I could think was: ACK! I do not need another kitchen gadget. I know these are terribly expensive, and the gift was given in love, so I am going to see it as an unexpected blessing.

I am looking for feedback from those of you who may use them... what do you like to make? Are they easy to use? Can I now ditch my blender and use this instead?

Any thoughts are welcome...

I had a friend whose Dad was devoted to his VitaMix. He claimed he could turn the sofa into a smoothie with it.

I think the main attraction is that you can "juice" without losing anything because the VitaMix can really, really pulverize stuff. I've also heard it's the only way to make really good homemade hummous.

I think you can safely ditch your blender. Have fun!

We love our Vitamix and we see it as our 'industrial blender' so no need for other blenders. As Susan said, you can blend anything with it. When I use to make almond milk, it made the smoothest, most perfect nut milk due to it's blending strength.

These are the blenders you now see in all the juice bars around Australia and these are such popular places! Walking through a shopping center and you walk past the juice bar and people are crowding around waiting eargerly for their fruit/yogurt smoothie concoction and paying good money for them!!!

I think you will in time, fall in love with your Vitamix.

We use ours almost every day. We buy frozen mixed fruit and strawberries at Costco and add a little bit of water and sugar, and it makes the best smoothies. You can put red cabbage and carrots in it and the kids won't notice at all.

Yeah, I think you can ditch your blender.

My mom uses it to make tomato sauce. She throws in the tomatoes halved, the peppers quartered and doesn't even chop the garlic or herbs one bit. Turms out smooth as silk. It's amazing!

Thank you, ladies! I am getting excited about it. That is a great tip about the red cabbage and carrots and the tomato sauce. I also see I can make ice cream with it. I have a pretty industrial blender that I don't really like as it is so hard to clean. I am happy to pass it on.

I REALLY would like to get one of these. I've been hinting all year to the children that mom would LOVE to get a vita-mix for Christmas. We'll see how that pans out.

How I wish someone would give me one as a gift. I would love to have a VitaMix. For me right now the cost is prohibitive. Every time they demonstrate one at Costco, I stand there and drool. Oh well. Maybe some day.

Oh, the awesomest thing about the Vita mix: to clean, put soap and hot water in and blend. Unless there is sticky stuff in it, it works great!

My children are in awe of the industrial style blender they were selling at Costco recently. They would love to buy one. They have a long list of all the items I could sell on ebay (they also really want to sell things on ebay) if I would just buy the mixer.

Right now I don't see it in our budget. It would be nice to have one though.

I'd like a Vita Mix, but it isn't in our budget right now - smoothies soup

But my mom has one, and I thought I'd add that she grinds her wheat berries into flour using her vitamix. That allows for the freshest bread possible when you can grind and bake. Don't know if you make your own bread Melinda, but just in case, it's another feature that's great and allows you to avoid the purchase of a wheat grinder!

One way I use my VitaMix through winter when making my chicken stocks, is I take all the bones/veges drained away from the stock and put it through the VitaMix so it comes out like a very smooth pate and I bag it in small freezer bags and freeze to give to my mum, so she can feed this extremely nutritious food to her dog each day - absolutely nothing goes to waste when making the stocks then.
