I've been thinking about freezing cookie dough in rolls that you can slice off like the ones you buy. I've never done this before. Is there anything to watch out for or can I just take my recipe as is (i.e. choc. chip) and go with that.
Also, if I were to freeze sweet dough for monkey bread, should I flash freeze the balls first before I put them in a bag?
Now that fall is here, my girls are wanting more baked treats with their tea.

I've frozen cookie dough before--it was great. I read beforehand that it only keeps for six weeks in the freezer, but I have no idea why that would be the case. I think my frozen dough only lasted eight weeks, anyway, but it still tasted great. My favorite part of it was cooking just the right amount for one day's treat. When I cook a whole, fresh batch, we eat way too many cookies!

You can freeze individual cookie portions as well--freeze them on a parchment-lined baking sheet or tray, then dump the frozen raw cookies into a freezer bag. You may have to tweak the baking time slightly, but otherwise they should be just like baking fresh dough.
Maybe the "six weeks" thing has to do with the presence of raw egg in the recipe. But mine would never last that long, either!!

I freeze coolkie dough like this often, and it works well.

I have made cookie dough in bulk using the "Make A Mix" cookbook recipes, formed it into logs, wrapped it in wax paper and then in foil, and frozen it with excellent results. I've usually made it in November and used it in December. (Oatmeal, sugar, choc. chip all work from that cookbook.)
It's a great time saver!

I would suggest freezing it in a log. I've frozen the little dough balls several times but they seem to *poof* themselves right out of the freezer. Don't know how that keeps happening...

Thank you ladies. My girls and I will be making cookie dough today to freeze. I hate to admit it, but I detest baking cookies - it takes so long. But this way I can put one cookie sheet in, enough for tea, and be done. I have a feeling it might not last 6 weeks around here!

Oh, I forgot the most important part! Try flattening the dough balls with the back of the spoon or the bottom of a glass before freezing(to make them even in thickness)--it only takes a second, and you may get better results.
I like the individual pieces, 'cuz then even the littlest kids can pull them out of the bag and feel like they had a hand in making the cookies. And I'm so terrible at cutting even slices!!!
