Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi,

I know this is a strange question. My daughter is getting ready to take the ACT test. We looked into seeing if we qualified for a fee waiver for the test. We were told "she would actually have to go to a school" to qualify for a fee waiver. I replied that she DOES go to school. Then I was told, "well, she would have to be a high school junior or senior" again to which I replied that she in fact IS a high school senior. I was told that since I didn't have an "official" counselor to sign it, there was no way to verify our information. I said I would be happy to send copies our Taxes, and that my younger children attend a 1-day program offered by the public school system, and qualify for reduced lunch. They again said, "No, because she doesn't attend a real school."

I am a little angry.

I am supposed to have a Supervisor calling me back (they were all busy.)

I am NOT a member of HSLDA, as we can never afford it, but is there a way to contact them to see what they say about this? Or does anyone else have any idea what I should do now?

Thanks,

In my opinion, you may as well contact them. I know they will "rush" membership applications if there is a specific situation a potential member needs urgent assistance with, and that even when non-members have legal problems they will sometimes come on board for the sake of establishing a precedent in a court case. So since your financial situation is at issue concerning both membership and the ACT fee, they may be willing to act pro bono.

Did you contact ACT directly? I got this from actadvantage.org:
"Students and educators who have immediate concerns about any of the services ACT provides may contact ACT by calling 866-763-3228 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Central time, Monday through Friday."

I'd be angry too!

HSLDA rushed our membership when we had neighbor issues last summer, they were very very helpful and I no longer consider our membership "optional".
