Erica mentioned in another thread that she feels good when she eats "really, really well." I am wondering what this looks like. I know I don't have a good diet. And then when I get run down I tend to go for the quick fixes like candy or coffee.
So what do you eat? Tell me a day in the life menu for Mom.
So far today, I have had instant oatmeal, a yogurt, a ham and cheese sandwich, and a few handfuls of Whoopers. I was up most of the night with my toddler and it is all I can do to keep my eyes open.

In 1999 due to health problems I switched to all natural, via Marilu Henner's Total Health Makeover. (This was after many pricey medical tests and no conclusive results what so ever. Actually the doctors didn't have a clue.) It worked really, really well until I moved to TN in 2005. I put on weight, did not eat right, didn't feel healthy, etc. I kept asking God what was it going to take to make me take care of my self again. He gave me an answer. My kidneys were very unhappy and I started to urinate a lot of blood. I always told my husband that if I had major medical problems that I would go macrobiotic. That is what I did. I found a teacher and my health is getting back to normal now. I have dropped nearly 20 pounds (which really needed to go), I have a lot more energy, my moods are so much more stable, and (if you can believe this) I feel like exercising again! It seems nothing short of a miracle. So, if I wanted to get healthy, I would first look into Marilu Henner's Total Health Makeover. (and no, she is not Vegan!)
Hope that helps some.

Umm...so far (at 3:30 in the afternoon) I've had 3 cups of coffee, a chicken tender and some leftover sauteed veggies from last night's dinner. And a cookie.
So...not so healthy, actually.
I really need to do better.

It's 12:30 here, and so far today I've had half a can of coke to keep a headache at bay, and a handful of goldfish crackers...

It seems so unfair- you can hold a cranky toddler and at the same time eat tortilla chips right out of the bag. You cannot hold a cranky toddler and make a salad at the same time. That seems so wrong to me- all backwards. Assuming that mothers were not meant to survive on one-handed foods, you would think it would be easier to eat a healthy diet- especially as a model for your dc.
No easy answers here, either

Hmmm, today I've had most of a java chip frapuccino, a sample of smoked salmon from Costco...and ummm...that's it...very very NOT healthy.
This by far is one of my biggest personal flaws.

Diet Coke, breakfast of champions.
Slices of American cheese (processed but portable).
Leftover chicken/potato casserole (cold).
Perrier.
A handful of sugared yucky breakfast cereal.
Methinks this will be an inspiring thread.
I actually prefer to eat unprocessed, cooked-from-scratch foods, but dh is gone and I have a huge project due Monday, with houseguests arriving Saturday. Something just has to give.

I just had a lunch of Dolmades, Avogolemono, Gyro on Pita with Tzatziki and Greek Salad with Feta, cucumbers, carmelized onions, and kalamata olives.
Oh, and one tiny cup of coffee and two Pepsi Ones this morning (splenda)and a box of raspberries for CF Clinic, early, early. (I'm tired.)
But that doesn't include the two bowls of Good Friends cereal with Costco peaches (thank heavens: not mushy) during the night...(I can't sleep through the night unless I get up and eat to fall back into a food coma.)
I try to eat really well. I love salads and fruit and eggs and cheese and good bread. But I also LOVE french fries and pizza and Mexican Food with lots of guacamole (which I guess is good for you).

This is fun reading!
After power walking almost 5 miles this morning I've had:
1/2 cup of plain yogurt sprinkled with stevia supreme and a little cocoa
a bowl of fresh green grapes
a glass of iced tea with stevia and lemon
1 ham and cheese roll-up (1 slice of provolone cheese rolled with 1 slice of ham and a little mustard)
about 10 tostito chips with spicy hummus dip
1 mug of hazelnut coffee
typing this out is making me realize I haven't had any plain water...off for a drink

Thank you, Nina
My next door neighbor has been asking me to walk in the morning with her for the last five years. I've always declined as I felt I couldn't be out of the house for 70 minutes 5 morning per week. This summer I finally started walking with her and was bound and determined to continue once school started. I love it and feel so good exercising in the fresh air...hot...humid...sweat till my clothes are soaking wet...I must be crazy!

You know, I always think that if I would just limit myself to eating what I feed my son and daughter, my diet would be ever so much healthier...
They've had:
oatmeal with apricots and apples
homemade lentil soup
apple bits, cheese chunks, tofu cubes, and peas
whole wheat bread spread with cottage cheese
lots of milk and water
If only that were what I had eaten today too!

This is one of the main reasons that I don't make my own baby food...my diet is pretty bad, but I'm much more concientious with my little one.
Actually, I've just gotten back on the better-eating bandwagon (as of yesterday). My diet was wonderful when I was pregnant (due to Gest. diabetes ) but went downhill as soon as he was born (and I mean we were still in the hospital )
So, this thread is timely for me. My big goals are
1. to cut out soda (I usually drink at least 1 20 oz. Mountian Dew a day) I know it's terrible, but I love it
2. eat a salad with my lunch
3. make sure we have a vegetable with dinner each night
Pretty small steps, in some ways. If I can tackle #1, I'll be in good shape.
I just had my physical last week. My weight is still very high, and my chol. is elevated. I have to take control of these health issues before they get out of hand.

I had a cup of Earl Grey, half a glass of lemonade, an Asiago cheese bagel from Panera. Two spoonfuls of rice and corned beef hash that my teenager made.
Just this morning I was telling myself I need to get back to eating healthier. That detox diet has been in my mind for a while.
You should have asked the past two days, as I was rather virtuous. Last night it was an indian chickpea soup with lemon juice, spices like cardamom and cloves, etc. The night before it was lentil soup with a yummy onion-ginger-jalapeno tempering oil.
The past week and a half -- preparing for a party -- the party itself -- party aftermath -- has been bad.
We need a thread on our favorite healthy foods/recipes. Do we already have one? I'll search, and start one if we don't....

Gee, Molly, if I tell you what I had today it might scare you.
For Breakfast I had miso soup with wakame sea veggie, carrots, scallions, shiitake mushroom, tofu and daikon radish. I also had oat groats that were cooked overnight in the crock pot and boiled kale with soy sauce and sesame seeds.
For lunch I made up broccoli, scallion, and tofu boiled in water with tamari (like a soy sauce), and a piece of mochi (form of sweet brown rice).
For dinner I had millet (a grain) with tofu cubes, onions, and corn. I also had broccoli because I have to have a green veggie with every meal and I that kale was my last green besides brocolli, which is the only organic green I can get in these parts. I also don't usually eat so much tofu, but I am expecting and have to have protien at every meal. Tofu happened to be quick and easy and the millet dish was left over from last night. Tofu was a second thought to my soup this morning because I forgot any other protein. Tomorrow will be more of a beans day. I happen to be on a very strict (not narrow!) diet right now due to my kidneys.
Now, how I used to eat...upon rising, fresh fruit or smoothy. 20 minutes to 2 hours later (depending on when I got hungry) a breakfast food, such as eziekeal bread or an egg white omlet, or some other healthy thing, depending on how hungry I was. For lunch either a protein or starch item (I used to food combine) with veggies, usually a green salad with red peppers. For dinner either a starch or protein item (what ever I didn't eat at lunch) with more veggies. Snacks were usually fresh veggies or even a cup of tea. Lot of water was good, chewing really well (now I chew even better!) and I did not eat dairy, red meat, processed foods, or any kind of refined sugar.
Well, that was probably more than you wanted to know!
God bless,
Kristen in TN

Wow! I am impressed by all these varied diets!
I usually have coffee for breakfast. Even though breakfast is my absolute favorite meal ... I almost never eat it. Now if dd prepares a breakfast, I will partake of a small amount.
I usually lunch around 11:00. I have ... leftovers. I love to cook, so there is always an overabundance of food in my home. So today it was smothered steak and mashed potates.
Mid afternoon, a snack. Today, I used Penzey's Chip-n-Dip with sour cream and chowed down on that with chips. That also ended up being my dinner since we had a concert tonight (yes, dd played the flute and the clarinet with our newly established hs band. They were great!)
Then I came home and had a glass of wine. Does that count in your diet?
