One of my high school friends works for channel 9 in Washington, D.C. She just recently found my blog and told one of the producers about it, and the producer just called me and asked if I would be interested in being on a panel being taped next week about "blogging moms."
Can you believe it? There are so many of you here who could definately do this instead of me. I'm still in shock! I don't know if I can do this. I think it's funny. I'm going to have to sleep on it. What do you think?

I totally think you should do it Ruth! How fun! Not to mention a great witness, imagine how many people will have to peruse your blog before the interview!

I think it will be a fantastic opportunity.
I was just reading Minnesota Margaret's post about dumping Pioneer Woman's blog from her blogroll and it got me thinking.
So many of the more prominant Mom blogs (like the BlogHer ones)are just so crass and offensive. I guess they think they have to be in order to get a lot of hits and get their ratings up high.
It would be nice to get some publicity for a Mom blog that doesn't sink to the lowest level. I think you would be a great example of what a Mom blog can be. A shining example that you don't have to use foul language and disparage men and talk about crude subject matter. That you can be a positive force in the world through your blog.
I hope you do it.

Oh, Ruth, you've got to do it! They just had a show on O**** the other day, about women who stayed at home and how they regretted the decision to do that. They were ALL whining about missing out on lunches and adult conversation, etc. Bleh! You can show the total opposite!

Ruth, that's very exciting! I would make certain you get the list of questions first, though.
Sometimes they get you backed into a corner, or ask you a question you aren't prepared for which sometimes ends in the reporter twisting a story in a way you didn't expect or want. Remember that your responses can be cut any way they want. So keep your responses very positive.
And also get from them the overall story line they're going for. What's the angle? "Blogging Moms" is just too broad. And finally, see if they can give you a list of their other interviewees, so that you can check them out and determine whether or not you want to be associated with that group.
Oh, and make sure that if you are blogging about your family that your surname and address are NOT shared in the segment or online resources.

This is excellent advice. I had not thought about any of this at all. I still don't feel at all qualified to be on any sort of discussion panel, even if it's about parenting. I'm not sure if I'll end up doing it.
I have an OB appt. that morning, so if I can't get there on time, then I assume it's fate, right? I'm leaving it in God's hands. It still doesn't feel real; maybe I'm still in shock.
I appreciate all your prayers and encouragement. I know I will need them if I decide to do this. The Holy Spirit will have to make it very clear to me, and guide me in every word I say.
I'll let you all know soon.

I think you'll be great. You'll be a great representative of the kind of blogging we do.
