Its wonderful.
I went to Discovery Health website, and they actually have a messageboard about the Duggars...and boy, its hard not to get sick to your stomach reading the comments people make about them...
I am SO glad to be Catholic...and to have places like this (and a few others) where there are supportive people....

DH and I were discussing this over lunch today. It's amazing how many people are offended by the mere existence of the Duggars
I think they're a wonderful example to us all, whether we have 1 child or are working on our own 17!

What's worse, is when it's "christians" claiming common sense dictates she shouldn't have so many dc.

My mother got to meet the Duggers and she said that the children are just as sweet and well-behaved as they seem on the show.

Wow, the mom does look great! I can't imagine how they do it, but God bless them!
My oldest daughter, 11, thinks 17 kids is kind of crazy. "But 12 is a good number, Mom."! Okay, let's welcome #8 first.
Congratulations Duggar Family!

That's so awesome. And I mean AWE. Good for the Duggars.
My mother-in-law has 17 kids. NO twins! And no Irish twins either. Oldest is almost 27 I think and the youngest just turned 2yrs. I think she started when she was 19 though. Me and my husband's bros wives joke about how far behind we are cuz we all got married after age 21.

Funny this is the first time they thought of Jennifer! Is Jinger a boy or girl?

I started at 26 and if I have kids at the same rate until my mom had her last (46), I would have 17 kids. So even you late starters still have a chance.
Great for the Duggars!

Someone mentioned this is Ginger with a J. I'm guessing a girl then. Funny how you don't read it Ginger, though, isn't it? I was thinking jing-(like sing)-er.

I think if I had read it before I had heard it (on one of the TLC shows), I might have not recognized it as Ginger with a J. She is a girl.

You know, ANYBODY can have tons of kids, if they are healthy. Its a perfectly natural biological function that tends to result from frequent marital relations. Thats not so admirable. You can even get pregnant when you aren't trying to!
What I find worthy of praise in the Duggers is that they are debt free. THAT takes forethought and purposeful behavior! Now THERE is integrity and ideals, and it takes lots of self control and personal responsibility. WOW! Would that more people emulated them in this talent!
Married couples should have as many children as they feel called to have, keeping in mind 1 Timothy 5:8 and Proverbs 22:7. I think the Duggers are doing a great job in this department! They set a standard that is attainable by many more of us!
Peace,
Macmom

Hmmmm not sure the Catholic Church says this. We make a promise at our wedding to be open to life, not live debt free.
As for 1 Timothy 5:8, you may not want to take that so literally, after all provision means many things to many cultures. I am certain that God smiles warmly on families in 3rd world countries and I am certain most Americans would consider them not provided for. Are those parents in sin? What defines provision?
We choose to live debt free, I think it honorable, however I would NEVER find it more admirable than being open to an eternal soul.

Chicken lady-
I don't think the Church ever contradicts the Bible, properly understood.
Open to life means not just having lots of kidlets, but caring for them once they arrive. A family "on the dole" is not caring for their kids, and neither is a family piling up massive debts because they can't live witjhin their means. The Duggers do neither. I find that praise-worthy.
Provisions would mean that the parents (usually dad's) income can pay for food, shelter, and clothes. I admire that the Dugger's do this with thrift, without using credit cards. Parents should provide adequately- and I suppose that varies by country. (My kids get oranges in the winter- Nigerian kids may not!My kids all have matresses, a Costa Rican child may not!) Yes, I think people who go into debt or expect others to pay for their lifestyle because they can't provide need to consider what God is calling them to. That's responsible parenthood.
Hooray for the Duggers- they take care of themselves with the provisions God has given them!
BTW, I am having my 9th child, and we, like the Duggers, built our own house and try to live simply. (I see it as a Franciscan calling.) Not everyone will have children into the double digits- but everyone can provide for the children they have with responsibility. I'm just trying to call attention to the fact that most of us never WILL have 17 children, but all of us can be conscientious financial stewards of the goods we have been blessed with. We can live within the means that God gave us, instead of being so materialistic that we heap up debt or go on welfare.
