my dd's b-day is Sunday, she wants music for her Ipod thingy, not sure the name brand....anyways, I know you can buy I tune cards and you can down load music. Now I have NO idea how to do this, but that aside, is there a good selection of quality music from places like I tune? Are there better avenues to explore? What other options for downloading music do I have? We are very strict about music, just because it says Jesus does not cut it IYKWIM

Hi Molly,
My 13yo dd just walked up and told me that if you have cds that you like you can import them onto your itunes library and download them on to your ipod.

Molly--There is a good selection of quality music available. Just a warning iTunes only downloads directly to iPods. We had to burn to cd then upload to mp3 when ds received iTunes gift cards. On this site, you can listen before you downlaod, a good option for moms who want to listen first. Also, there are many websites that have audiobook downloads for mp3s. I make sure that in addition to pre-screened music, ds has a good supply of quality lit at his fingertips.

Don't know how much this will help...
I have an iPod and have used iTunes a lot for music, so I don't know how other brands work. I bought Le Nozze di Figaro for my dad (burned it on a CD), made anniversary playlists (burned to CD) for my husband, and educational songs (math facts as a memorization aid) for kids. I even imported sound files from a computer game. In fact, using iTunes Store I have found almost any piece I wanted. If you know what you're looking for you can search for it, or you can browse genres, artists, etc. Don't mean to be an iTunes commercial, but it has definitely been helpful for me.
Also, I recently browsed an Ignatius Press music catalog and found SO MANY things I wanted (for me--not sure what your dd's taste are) It's a good place to find classical music, chant, sacred and folk hymns, tasteful pop music, etc. May spark some ideas.
Last thing--all my kids like Little Einsteins which always has at least one composer/piece featured, so I picked from these pieces with which they were already familiar and bought them music for Christmas last year--Midsummer Night's Dream, Peer Gynt, Dvorak's New World Symphony. The real stuff. They loved it. Classical music is all over pop culture, and it's fun to connect something familiar to the entire original. I remember being so tickled at finding out the "Beef--It's What's for Dinner" "jingle" was Copland's "Hoedown." Anyway, maybe you can get similar ideas.
I could ransack my CD collection but I'm already a bit long-winded!
