Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am interested in hearing about your family prayer time. In the evening, we gather together to say our family prayers. I would like to start including something for the children to reflect on, maybe a quote or something short for us to discuss, etc. as a family. I found this wonderful collection of quotes from JPII talks at the World Youth Days he attended. Anyone else have some ideas?

We live too far out in the country to make it to daily mass- so we read the mass readings from Magnificat every day. Then we discuss them. After that we have our more "formula" prayers (Our Father, Hail Mary) and our prayer requests. (BTW, my 9 children range in age from 15 to 2, with one on the way!)

Every morning, each child makes a Daily Offering before they get out of bed. (It's not "together as a family, but it comes into play with family prayer latter... hold on!)

At lunch, we pray the Angelus.

Dad leads night prayers. He always begins with each child saying what they are thankful for. At the end, we have a quiet examination of Conscience, where we remind them they offered God their best today. Look over the day and see if they need to apologize to anyone. (You'd think it would devolve into "You should apologize to me because you did blah, blah, blah..." but it doesn't. They (and Mom and Dad when necessary!) are truly repentant. The Daily Morning Offering and the Nightly Examination of Conscience are bookends to our days.

Thanks for asking. Let's see what others do.
