HOw do you read through blogs? Do you just pick a few each day to read or do you have a set day of the week you read them all or what? I love to look through the nice blogs you all have but am trying to find what works well. I am just reading them randomly right now and find I forget to read some.

Lisa,
I have found that using Bloglines and/or Google Reader helps me keep track of what's new and what I've read or not. Frequently, I let them all build up and then if I'm up really early or if I'm sitting with a nursy baby who just won't let go and won't lie down either, I'll read through a bunch at a time. If it's the latter case, I can only read and not comment, but at least I read . And, sometimes, there are so many unread posts that I get overwhelmed, mark them all read, and just start over .

Not nursing, but I do the same thing, probably once a week.
I do have a folder for the blogs I want to read fairly frequently. The others are arranged by topic so if I'm in an unschooly mode, I focus on those, or if I want to look at other mom's Learning Notes, I zip through those.

I use Bloglines and usually play catch-up every few days. It's so much easier when the blog has the setting to show all the post into bloglines...the partial ones I don't always have the time to go to the actual blog and read. I also don't have time to comment all the time. But I do appreciate comments on mine, so try to do it once in a while.
I have my blogs organized similar to Willa -- 4Real, daily learning, Catholic, food, garden, craft, other homeschool....

Oh, and I love the feature to save posts. There are some I want to reread, and I can go back in Bloglines and read it over. I guess that's another part of my routine...if I don't have time to comment right away, I have it to go back and open the actual blog to comment.

I am very selective and decisive.
There's a few I check as the time/whim catches me or someone else suggests.
Then there's the occassions when I'm looking for something specific - history, science, faith enrichment, or whatever. At those times, I'll start a search on the board (this one 95% of the time) and see what it brings up.
However, I'm trying really hard to limit my computer time. It's too easy to let a 5 minute trip to an internet destination become a cross country road trip and my family needs me at home!

I guess I need to investigate what a blogline is. I am not very blog literate yet.

Lisa,
Go to Bloglines and click on "subscribe." It's all free. You key in the URL of the blogs you want to read and then when you want to read blogs, you click on your account at bloglines. All your blogs will be lined up for you and the ones with new entires will be bolded. When you click on the bolded ones, Bloglines records them as read. That way, you only go to blogs with something new . And if this made no sense, ask away!

Although I didn't ask the original question...but I had certainly been wondering the same thing!
Thanks Elizabeth, makes sense to me!

Elizabeth,
I have my list of blogs on bloglines but how do I tell when there is a new post on a blog. You said it is bolded but I haven't seen any like what you describe but when I click one of them, some people have added a new post but it doesn't look any different from a blog that doesn't have a new post. Clear as mud? TIA.

Elizabeth,
Thank you for telling me about bloglines, its so easy
Only irritating factor at present is for some reason your blog and JennGM's is coming up as an account with 'no title' and therefore is not functioning with bloglines

I have both subscribed in my Bloglines, and have no problem. However, I haven't posted in a while as I've been super busy (I remedied that this morning) and we'll see if that's the problem. Let me know if it persists, maybe it's the way they are entered?

Jenn
I can only imagine it is to do with the way they are entered, as it says you have 'no title' yet it tells me you have other subcribers. I have just managed to subscribe to you via a 'back door'. I went to 'other feeds' and ticked you in amongst other blogs and successfully got you in that way. Got to find Elizabeth on someone else's feed and enter her that way too.
