Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

dh accepted a job in Bethesda. Our house near Winchester, VA, is still on the market. (Anyone want a cedar-sided Cape Cod in a gated lake community? ) We're doing everything we can to sell it this summer and move by September, because dh's commute is now 2-3 hours each way, depending on traffic.

We're planning to rent for a year or two, but we'd like to pick an area and stay there. We're looking at Frederick County, maybe even as far north as Emmitsburg. Dh doesn't mind commuting 1-2 hours each way if we can live somewhere more rural, especially since he'll be able to work from home some. Anybody have any suggestions??

Wendy -

There are likely to be commuter ride-share programs or the possibility of getting to a MARC station to take a train into Bethesda. Are you working with a realtor in Frederick County? Maybe they could help you think about kinder, more gentle ways of commuting that would beat the traffic on 270 any day.

Peace,
Nancy

Hi Wendy,

We moved to MD almost two years ago; dh's job is in Gaithersburg, not too far north of Bethesda. We looked at houses in Frederick County first too, but quickly gave up that idea because the housing costs were so high -- and they've only gone up in the last two years. We ended up going just over the County's western border into Washington County and like it very much, here in the rural town of Boonsboro.

I'd suggest you look at all your public transportation options before staking out areas to house-hunt. Dh has a fifteen-minute drive to the MARC train, and a forty-minute ride into work -- which isn't at all bad, considering the normal commute lengths around here, and especially since he can relax on the train for most of it.

Best of luck selling your house, and finding a new place!

Amy

I was just up there recently and all the communities along I-70 (Mt. Airy, Frederick, etc.) looked sort of nice.

What if you moved to WV or the Point of Rocks area and took the MARC?
