I was just reading this post: Abandon the "go out" Lifestyle . Make sure you read the comments too.
With gas prices I think we can all agree that something needs to give. 
I like the "ideal" of letting go of the "go out" lifestyle, but reality doesn't seem to work with my ideal. It's a rat race around here. Always has been.
How do you stop the wheels rolling when everyone around you is spinning them? Let's face it. The world does not stop for homebodies.
But, in being home, we are allowed our own personal education.
Cindy has been blogging about her personal education and what she did today and it's so fun to read.
I'm certainly never bored when I'm home but other people suppose that we are. Why?
I thought it'd be fun to discuss our own personal education and what we do all day.
This comes with a combined plea for prayers. It's the part where I insert my foot in my mouth because it's completely contradictory of what this thread is about.
My family is going in all different directions until after the 4th of July holiday. I need prayers for all our safety and travel. My biggest homebody has been traveling every weekend and he can't stand it but he has to go again this weekend and next.
I'll miss you all so much!

Oh gosh, I could never imagine being bored at home. Sleepy yes, tired, yes, but BORED??? Nevah!!! There's so much to do! And I'm not just talking about housework. Just the pile of reading material I've got here is enough to last me 'til I'm in my 80's.
(Now that I'm looking at this pile, I better sell some old books....)
I've had a friend ask me recently what my "typical day" is like. One of these days I'll blog about it -- as she said she and a couple of other friends have been wondering. That my schedule would be of interest to other moms is funny but I guess anyone who isn't homeschooling is likely to wonder....

Bored? HAHAHAHAHAHAhAhAHAHAHAHAHAAHHEEEEEEE.....(insert continuing wheezy laugh in here--still have a touch of a cold/allergy thing).
Yeah. Right. I am constantly having to reconfigure, recalculate, reconsider. I have to look up and research how to get the marker off of something/s--or if it is even possible, how much will it cost to replace it/redo it...
Then there's the homeschooling...the reading I do for my own pleasure/edification (I just read "King of the Golden City" last night for the first time. EXCELLENT BOOK! Glad I bought it). I don't generally read fiction.
Then there are my online forums, where the ladies are asking for advice, bringing up things I haven't thought of, discussing social/cultural issues...and seeing that my forums are international, there is a wide variety of experiences, etc, to pull from.
Bored? Who is bored when they have to dash hither and yon to make sure that the three yr old who is none to steady on the climbing thing doesn't fall headfirst from the top bunk...that the five yr old whose favorite thing to do is play with computers and mechanical things, doesn't decide that Daddy's projects are fair game? That the overconfident, yet helpful seven yr old doesn't wash Daddy's uniform (that costs close to $100/pair) with Daddy's new red shirt...on hot. LOL
Then the balancing act between one's faith and one's extended family (not Catholic). The issues of respect and love for family, combined with the deep love of the Church and following her, makes phone calls always an interesting conversational gamble....social secretary extraordinaire.
Counselor, laundress, cook, maid, nurse, governess, chauffeur (on occasion, lol) to others, and maintaining my own "seperateness" in some areas...whew. Who has time to be BORED? LOL. I am busy all day long. I have to make reasons to NOT be busy.
Don't know if that covers it, but that's what I think of when people mention boredom and staying at home...lol

hmm, I'm a homebody who loves company! I'm not really interested in the "life in a van" life style, but I do love to travel and enjoy good conversation. If I can't go out - I will constantly invite people into my home and I rarely ever tell them to leave. 
As for avoiding being out to much...
I just make a schedule, which is nothing more than my list of priorities, and stick to it 90% of the time.
My children's education is a priority, so it's the first goal of the day and what the majority of our mornings are spent on. Any out of the home activities are always afternoon activities.
Holy days are priorities, so we almost never allow anything to be scheduled on those days. (It's also the only day dh is home from work, another priority!)
And then there is $$$. There's only so much of it and us to go around. Usually by the time we cover the few things that fit within our priority guidelines - there simply isn't any left over for the other stuff. Which makes not doing that other stuff, less a disciline/lifestyle issue and more of a de facto can't happen anyhow issue. 
That's what we do, for whatever it is or is not worth to anyone else.

Somehow I've always associated being bored at home with an outlook that says someone else is supposed to entertain us. I don't get that. Somehow, I am highly entertained at home! As my oldest dd rewrites the Beatitudes to describe me: "Happy are the easily amused."

I guess boredom is a classic subject.
