I am interested in hearing your opinions about my 16 1/2 year old dd working at a movie theater. She keeps asking me, and I have put off giving her an answer. I have reservations because of the movies that are shown at the theaters. Even though she won't be seeing them, I am not sure of the idea of her selling tickets to these movies, etc. What do you think?

My nephew works at one (he is 17) and has for over a year. He DOES see all the movies. I would think that every theater has different rules.

We are lucky enough to have a small (1 screen) theater in our town that only shoes G and PG movies. The owners are Christian and want to keep family values in our town.

Are there any theaters like that in your area? That might be a better option. You could even speak to the management to find out about their policies when it comes to employees.

I don't speak from my kids'experience (they are too little :-) but my gut tells me that besides the problem of inappropriate movies, there is also too much "hanging around" time at a movie theater job. I'd like to see my teenagers busy

Just something to think about.

We've just had our 4th child now find a job !
Only two more kids to go

Indigo ds11 keeps asking me when we leave a store " do you think they are hiring ? " He really still dosen't get that he legally can't work at wal mart

I've found it is so much harder for younger people to find work in the city compared to the smaller towns and country .All our kids had no problem finding work at the lake for the summer months restaraunt work , garbage pick up landscaping etc.
My mum just landed a job cleaning homes for $15 hr !
Now in the city it has been extremely hard . Construction companies like dh cannot hire until the kids are 18 or older due to insurance reasons .
forestfire fighting as well . many jobs are also in high demand because all the university stuedents are looking too .
Some more posative jobs possibly are summer camp helpers , cleaning homes , childcare , most cities hire green teams which are youth who clean up in teams around the city . mcdonalds , burger king etc. are always hiring . walmart hires in these busy times like summer , Christmas etc. if you get on then and do well they will keep you on after the 3 month trail period . I do not like shopping at these laces because of thier supporting factories etc.in the third world but people also need employment . A great job is working in greenhouses but they may be finsihed hiring for the season already .
Our kids all had to get a job by 16yo at least try to get one that is . So far they all have found work .Two of the kids started at a family run restaraunt down the back lane

you could try that just go apply at places close by your home .
Oh and a movie theater dosen't sound to bad compared to our eldest worked at a gay bar when she was 19yo ! that only lasted 3 months Thanks be to God

I would agree with the too much idle time point. They seem to have way too much time to socialize, and from the look of a lot of the kids working at theaters, many are not the sort I would want my teen getting cozy with.

Having a job as a teen is fun, an opening to new worlds, but she should try to find something that expects more from her. Even an ice cream shop, especially in summer, will keep her moving. There will be time for friendships to form while scooping ice cream, but not for the long conversations that would happen at a theater.

Just my $.02! My teen umpires baseball games. He gets anywhere from $26-$52 for no more than 3 hrs of work. Not a bad deal!!
