Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi ladies,

My dh is looking for a new job and one of the places is in Tennessee. Having looked at HSLDA and the homeschool laws there I'm a bit concerned. I don't have my degree and my eldest will be in high school next year. We have switched to Kolbe Academy but I don't know that it qualifies as a 'church school'. Dh of course has degrees out the wazoo, but I'm not sure that would be enough to satisfy the requirements. Can you guys help me out here? How do you work with these laws and homeschool in Tennessee? THANK YOU for your help in advance!!!

I believe in TN that there's many cover schools for that reason.. and that they're not really restrictive at all. You might want to do a search on cover schools in TN.

Yes, there are cover schools. I would recommend HomeLife Academy. At the beginning of the year you submit to them what you will be using, either a curriculum or books or whatever. Then you submit grades twice a year. All this can be done online. There is a yearly fee per child, which I can't remember right now, but they have a $100 family maximum. I am schooling 3 right now and have not hit the max yet. There are no Catholic cover schools here, but this school is not anti-Catholic at all. It is very non-evasive. I hope you are moving to Lawrence or Giles County because we are in desperate need of Catholic homeschoolers here! LOL!! Don't let the laws scare you away from TN. It is pretty easy.

God bless,

Thanks... that is very helpful. I wonder if Kolbe would count then... it is similar to HomeLife Academy in set up... I know how you feel... I've been the only Catholic homeschooler in my area for some time now. **sigh**
