I am currently 6 months pregnant and have to go to a wedding in a month. I am having the worst time finding a maternity dress that has sleeves, (at least some sort of sleeve), is long enough, does NOT have a plunging neckline and doesn't look like something I MIGHT sleep in. I am serious!! The dresses at Motherhood at the local mall look like nightgowns. And, I have looked high and low online for a normal dress, and I cannot find anything. I did manage to find longer dresses in the ballgown section of some sights!!!! (They were around $300+ too)
Then, I put in modest maternity dresses, and all I could come up with is blue-jean stuff that would not be appropriate for an afternoon wedding. The other down side is that my shoulders have gotten HUGE after the twins arrived last year, and I have moved up to a 1X size due to that alone!!! (I can't believe I actually wrote that!!!) So, that limits my choices even more since I guess I am a football player now or something.
Can anyone help with the names of stores, or sites online where I could possibly find a normal, inexpensive, huge maternity dress?? I am seriously considering having my SIL just wrap me in fabric and adding a tuck here or there.
Leaning towards a togo...please help!

Ah, yes...the difficulty of finding modest maternity clothing made more interesting by getting bigger...and bigger...and bigger (btw, I'm wearing a 2X skirt at the moment, and a XL shirt--the topside of me is outpaced by far by my ever expanding twin stomach, lol).
I've had SOME luck on ebay. I kwym about the modest maternity web search...that's how I found my skirts, lol.
But ebay is the best option, I think. I don't know if that will help...but I've found a few things.
Personally, I felt I was going to have to wrap myself in a bedsheet toga with a teeshirt underneath just to go outside...
SIGH
Rachel (maybe a month or less to go for me...I'm 33w2d today)

Hi Kim!
I did some searching, and the best site that I could see that had a lot of options was the Nordstrom Maternity (even though the prices are not cheap, some are quite nice!), but especially this one.
I always enjoy LIz Lange at Target, and even a nice short-sleeved sweater can go nicely over a dress, if you are having trouble finding one with sleeves. I hope this helps!
I'm sure you will look beautiful!

Kim~
If you go here and type in MATERNITY in the upper right corner in the "FIND" box. You'll get a list of sites. May be worth some time perusing.
Colleen Hammond's resource page may be worth trying to find someone to make a dress for you. ($40-80?) ??? Just a thought.
You could also concentrate on finding a VERY NICE TOP....from Pea in a Pod or Mimi Maternity. Find out where all the career gals shop for maternity in your area. Go there, spend the money on a great top.
Then make a skirt, if you can't find a long one that you like . Could be a big piece of fabric (maybe even stretchy knit, to avoid the tent-y look) wrap around and tie it. With it hemmed at the bottom and sides. It sounds crude, but you never see the top. It looks like you're wearing a nice straight skirt. With a nice, top, nylons, nice shoes. Nice shoes can make ANYTHING look nice.

I just went back and re-read your post. See? You already thought of this, and it is NOT a bad idea......as long as you find a GREAT TOP!
ETA: I just remembered Helen's Post where she asked for St. Patrick's help with clothing.
Don't forget to bring in the big guns......Pray for St. Patrick to help you. Or any saint that you have a statue of. When you're searching on the internet, place that statue in front of you and ask for their miraculous intercession to find just the right dress/clothing. Or if you're going shopping, give them a bed in your purse!

I don't have much to add except I tend to go with seperates. A nice skirt with a blouse over a shell is modest, and will still look nice.

I wonder why she asks St. Patrick for help? Does he have something to do with clothing? That would be interesting to know! I usually ask the Blessed Mother for help. I had thought of the skirt/top thing as well. I think I am just the classic upside down triangle shape or something. Wide at top, and progressively smaller as you go down. Oh well. Only a few more months, and I am sure all eyes will be on the bride and not me anyway!! But, I just wanted to look respectabe, of course. Thanks for everyone's help, especially with actually finding links!! I have dial-up still and you would not believe how hard it is to shop online with the connection being so slow!!!!!

Boy! You struck a memory here! I had to help my very, very pregnant friend find something to wear to a wedding party thing on South Beach, we did end up in the sarong section of our local swim shop and just started wrapping her in different colors and types of ties and at one point she had a white sarong around the front and I slung a pale blue one around the back, tied a few knots and stepped back - gasping!
She looked just like the Blessed Virgin Mary.
But since she is J.Witness she didn't really appreciate my burbles of admiration.
We finally settled on a huge leopard print sarong that we could tie using a single sarong and she had a lovely black lace shawl at home. Add strappy black heels and she looked ready for South Beach not the Stable.
