Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Thanks!

My hair has been driving me nuts- it was almost to my waist and very hard to care for due to bad shoulders and hands and having a new wee one to lug around.
DH has been having to brushing it.

I have had a problem about cutting shorter - a throwback to when i was younger and being given conflicting ideas about femininity by my parents.
I felt guilty/unwomanly for wanting to cut it.

plus dd has been asking for a trim- she wants to take care of hers on her own but is too little to really care for long hair independently -but again i hesitated about the appropriateness of shorter hair on girls.

a few weeks ago we read Erandis braids- dd loved it!
She thought the idea of giving away your hair to help someone was neat. I found a copy of the Magi's gift to read to her too.

then everyone started posting/ blogging about locks for love and your daughters looked so cute and dd was so excited about the idea. we really loved the organization's website.

so to make a long story longer- we just got back from the salon -you should of seen it- 3 yrold running amok me bouncing the screeching baby wrapped up in a smock on my lap and dd trying soooo hard to hold still while grinning her head off.

she looks very cute with a strait trim about chin length. Because of my curls mine is around jaw length and i still look as windblown as always but it is so cute. dd is very happy! dh will be too- i look a lot like when we met

and i feel physically and emotionlly 50 lbs lighter.
Thanks a lot. I was able to really put the whole hair length thing in perspective and focus on someone other than me.

Maggie

FYI, Pantene requires 8 inches while Locks of Love requires 10 inches. So if you're thinking about donating but are not ready to give up 10 whole inches maybe think about 8 inches. It'll go for the ladies battling cancer while Locks of Love is for children under 18. I think both are worthy causes!

I agree with Jennifer that both are good causes, and if you can't wait for 10 inches, please give to Pantene. I like Locks of Love because they help especially children who have alopecia (sp?) and therefore will never have hair. The reason they need at least 10 (and more is definitely better) is that girls these days want long hair. Two inches are "lost" inside the wig, so a 10 inch donation gives 8 inches of hair.

As I detailed in the other thread, I ended up donating more than I planned (14 inches). It was MUCH easier to accept the stylists mistake knowing that the extra inches were to be put to good use. I highly recommend donating!! (btw, i even got a free haircut out of it this time as some places donate their services when the client is donating the hair )
