I can't believe I didn't know this. I just found out you're not supposed to eat Feta cheese during pregnancy. After 7 babies, you'd think my OB would have mentioned it. I had a friend over yesterday, who goes to the same OB as me, and I was about to put Feta in her salad and she told me about this. I've been putting it in my salads this week.
Here is a link about it, just in case someone here didn't know:
Why are pregnant women told to avoid feta cheese?

I ate feta thru quite a few pregnancies before I found this out. Luckily all the babies were fine. I don't know if it was because the feta was heated or not. I have a couple of recipes where the feta is cooked in.

I'm really sorry but I can't eat feta when I'm not pregnant and can't even imagine wanting to eat it if I were pregnant --

Ditto to that!
I had heard the same about Brie, but of course, completely forgot about it during this last pregnancy. I ate a ton of it!

Yes it is a struggle to avoid these delicious soft cheeses while pregnant. My bil always has brie at every holiday dinner. For Easter he had some delicious looking bleu cheese type cheese that I had to not eat. Mary Ann plans to make me some Greek spaghetti (which has feta!) after I have this baby. I can hardly wait

So with you on that!! I'm not too crazy about cheeses...only once in a while do I get cravings, but it's for harder cheeses. I haven't met a feta I liked.

I never knew this either, I eat it all the time. When pregnant, feta and hummus are a staple for me! Thanks for the heads up.
Oh and my deepest sympathies to MAry and Jenn

I remember we were having a graduation dinner in a fancy restaurant/vineyard in Napa, Ca when my little brother graduated from high school. I ordered a salad and thought that the big chunks of white were cream cheese (and being a starving college student) popped the whole chunk into my mouth -- it tasted like a barn (and not the cute/clean/sanitized ones they show in Christmas cards )! I had to cough into my napkin so as not to embarrass by brother and family TOO much!

Listeria is very easily killed by heat.. just warming something up to "hot" is enough to kill it.

I'll make sure to heat it up in the dip if I make it again.
So are there any other foods we need to avoid that we should know about?

unpasteurised milks
soft, ripened cheeses (varieties such as brie, camembert, and similar blue veined varieties)
ice-cream from soft whip machines (wrapped or block ice-cream is fine)
patés — all types
raw and undercooked eggs (thoroughly cook eggs until both the white and yolk are solid)
liver and liver products
mayonnaise (homemade)
shark, marlin and swordfish should be avoided and tuna restricted to two medium cans or one fresh steak per week. This follows concerns about mercury in these fish and also applies to women who are breastfeeding or intending to become pregnant.
