Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone tried the Square Foot Gardening method? I'm thinking of doing it this year. Last year I didn't plant a veggie garden at all, and the year before it was pretty much a flop! LOL But the Square Foot method seems workable.

Yes, and I love it. To know my background, we live in the suburbs, have an HOA, had a late start to a garden last year. It was easy, looked nice, and quite successful. Dh was pleased that the instructions were easy to follow. Be sure to buy the new book, as the directions are clearer and more detailed.

I have only had vegetable gardens 4 times in my life, all since I've been married, so I'm really a green horn at all this.

Here are some pictures of our garden when we established it last year. I did a little lasagne gardening approach to mine.

I loved Rachel's Sq. Ft. Gardening, turning the dividers sideways is brilliant!

I think we're going to add one more box this year....but I haven't even started planning!

My dh and I were just discussing this very thing. We were going to do the sq ft gardening thing last year...too many things were going on and we never got past the planning stage. This week is major planning and material gathering. I can't wait to start. I want a major herb garden this year as well as the veggie one.

I want to work at preventing pests before they happen and I have no clue how do do that yet...LOL!

I got my spot all picked out...now to decide on seeds or seedlings. I want to go organic and as nutrient rich as possible. We are using EM's in the garden and I already have a 5 gal pail started of these. If you are interested in fermenting some of your own you need the organic molasses. I get mine from my organic food co-op. If you want to know more about it...let me know!

Funny thing is, that composting thing has me a little confused. I mean...the where shall I put the pile and how to contain it kinda thing. I have never done it before and my parents were both city people. This is my first year really gardening and I am so psyched. I pray it works out well!

Got to fly as I am having guests for dinner! I would love to hear what others are doing and any good links you can throw my way to help this newbie to learn more!

Did this 8 years ago when we were in Texas. Trying to do it again this year, but with several small boxes instead of one large one that I had in TX. Two years ago I did wintersowing. This year I'm doing a combo of both.

Tell us more about EM's, Donna Marie! I'm all ears!

I've used it almost exclusively in the small plot behind my dh's office. It works wonderfully!
