Well, you've all ispired me . I was reading an older thread re: using natural cleaning products instead of chemicals, and while I'm still easing myself into a new routine, I feel better about using something like Method instead of Clorox wipes to clean the kitchen and our table. What I was wondering is what types of natural bathing products you use, for yourself and your children. As I was bathing dd2 with a "calming milk bath with lavender" the other night, I decided to read the ingredients.
Lets put it this way-- "milk" was waaaaaaaaay down on the list, the first 10 ingredients or so brought back horrible memories from my high-school chemistry class, and it was manufactured in NJ-- 'nuff said. (My sincerest apologies to anyone who lives in the Garden state--its just my understanding that its a hotbed of chemical making?)
So, what do you use? Are there any good hair products that I could look into as well? (after I got myself through the bath, I really didn't want to look at the list on the back of the hair detangeler that I was spraying all over her sweet head . . . .)

Right now we're trying Earth Science. We've also used Nature's Gate before. I try to find stuff through EWG for non-toxic stuff.
ewg/skindeep
from my unfinished blog post, though i've got shampoo there)
* Terressentials Shampoos (B has tried this, it’s like washing your hair with mud; looks like mud, but doesn’t smell or feel icky, just… different.)
* Keys Soap Island RX
* Cocoon Organic Body and Hair Wash
* J.P. Durga Shampoo Soap Bar
We've also tried and liked Aubrey Organics.

I like Kiss My Face products. I buy them at Wegmans or Whole Foods. For facial care, I use L'Occitane.

I get my California Baby from Julie!
I really like it! Caution, don't leave a tub of girls alone with the bath bubbles. They are way too much fun!

LOL!! I have to say not all of NJ is in manufacturing...I am in the "scenic" part...LOL...but boy does NJ have a reputation haha
I love using Julie's products too! And I second Molly's warning...I lost a whole bottle of that wonderful California Baby bubble bath when I had to get a clean towel from the hall Those products are certainly easier on my kids' sensitive skin and smells nice!

Or a tub full of boys at our house!
Dh was laughing at me last night when I was blowing bubbles (from California Baby Calming Bubble Baths) on Laurence (his brothers where at a scout meeting), asking me if I was having more fun then Laurence. Many of the bubbles landed on his sweet head making his hair smell sooooo good when I snuggled next to him at bedtime.

My kids cry for the bubbles. We love California Baby. I recently started using the shampoo and conditioner on my own hair and can't believe the difference I'm seeing.

Okay, you've all sold me! I checked out California Baby, and it looks great! I just have to make sure my little boys, who are fond of dumping things out don't get their little hands on this!!

For those who use California Baby on your kids, what do you use on yourself?

On myself I use Dr Bronner's plain castille soap. I used to use the bars, but I find I waste alot with the bars, so I buy the big gallon jugs of the liquid castille soap. I use it for cleaning my house too. For my hair, I stopped using shampoo about a year ago. My hair was so flat and lifeless. It felt dirty all the time even though I washed it daily. I started using baking soda and a rinse of either water and a little apple cider vinegar or water and a little lime juice. My hair now has its natural curl back. I only wash it about twice a week (or whenever I feel it needs it), the other days I just rinse it. My hair is so much nicer and I don't use any chemicals!

I use California baby on the girls (Thanks for the link! I need some more but hate the high prices!), and use Avalon Organics on myself. I like the scent of the Ylang Ylang glistening, but lately I've been using the Peppermint and the Tea Tree oil versions. THe peppermint is a grreaaat wake up (and a little squirt into the tub also is wonderful for an after the shower soak, if you have time), and the tea tree oil smells minty too, and also helped immensely with my itchy scalp problem I've had for years.
You can get Avalon on ebay, too. I've got a couple of CASES (yes, I said cases!) of the ylang ylang shampoo in my cabinet. MUCHO cheaper on ebay than retail, btw.
Rachel (who also buys homemade soap from a couple of different places online/in person)

I use California Baby too and Avalon Organics. Though if the Avalon products don't get used fast enough it seems that they start smelling like alcohol.

I have to tell you -- I noticed something interesting this morning. I switched to castile soap for my hands about 2 days ago, as well as Seventh Generation for dishwashing, and I just realized that my hands aren't cracked and bleeding anymore! This stuff works! (And my little ones smell yummy!)
Any ideas on what is a good castile soap to get? I looked at Dr. Bronners (I think this is the one), that has all sorts of writing on the label? Whichever one it was, it had all sorts of weird philosophical stuff on it, and I just didn't want to get involved with it. Any other good ones to keep an eye out for?

Anne, here's an online source for a bar.
Don't remember where I got the link from, but I remember hearing wonderful things about her soaps. She's a SAHM, I believe.

The castille bar is about mid way down the page.

I noticed that alcohol smell with some Avalon Organics hand cream, but thought it was just me. Their rosemary shampoo is very nice. I love the smell of the Burt's Bees baby lotion and the baby powder. I think the scent is described as *apricot*.
Peace,
Nancy
