I cry everyday! Literally! I don't *feel* depressed (although I'm stressed out right now), so I'm wondering if my hormones are causing this outflow of tears? I'm 40 this week and still nursing day and night.
I do have a doctors appointment next month, so I'll discuss it in depth, but I was just curious if I could cry everyday and still not be considered depressed? I'm thinking the crying is just my way of dealing with all the stress.

crying can certainly be a release for stress so it's entirely possible.
Be sure you're continuing prenatal vitamins (need them while nursing) and I would add in a bit extra vit. D and Vit B complex. You wouldn't believe the difference those two things make on your ability to handle stress.

Lara, I cry WAY more now than I ever did outside of pregnancy and early post-partum. I do think that hormone fluctuations contribute to my tears. Crying and being depressed are 2 different things in my mind. In addition to physical contributions, sometimes I cry from being overwhelmed or to grieve or other reasons that have nothing to do with depression.
I really, really don't like crying out of what feels like nowhere, but am managing it with the help of my men who are very sweet .
Keep us posted
Love,

I cry often, too, mostly in response to events/deaths that have great personal meaning for me. I'm 49...beyond the nursing stage (sigh...I treasure all those memories of my little ones...), but I definitely notice increased, tearful, emotional reactions to important events.
Depression and crying are not the same thing. Nowhere close. Your doctor should be able to talk you through a depression checklist, which will include questions about feelings of uselessness, lack of appetite, desire to stay in bed instead of face the day, and much more. If you're nursing around the clock, that in itself would be enough to trigger tears on a regular basis (not because you are nursing, but because of your body's focus on that very important task).
(Side note...I am tearful by nature, and was this way even as a child...your mileage may vary!)
