So,I am three yrs. past my hysterectomy. I take my natural hormones, and try to walk and eat right. I just cannot get rid of my middle, which, my doctor says is contributing to my chronic backpain.
I am considering going on a diet-maybe the no flour and no sugar.
Any advice?( I hate, hate,hate sit-ups!)

Thank you!

I just starting T-tapp, which is supposed to take off inches quickly, as well as being very good for increasing bone density, energy, decreasing blood sugar and blood pressure. No dieting involved!

Dawn- !!!!

Truthfully, all of my "Diets", have been for health reasons, not actual weight loss,so this is new-and scary.

Molly, I will google T-tapp. I am on so many meds and supplements, that I really doubt my doc will approve of me *taking anything*. She actually wants me to eat fat to lose fat. I do pray this works for you! Thanks, for sharing!

The good news is: sit ups don't work.

The bad news is: exercise does.

I really like Jorge Cruise's "Eight Minutes in the Morning." Dh and I get up every morning and do exercise together (its basically weight training, focusing on a different muscle group every day.) Muscle burns calories faster, its a good warm up for the day, and my back hurts less. I actually double the routine and do 16 minutes in the morning! An added bonus- weightlifting improves bone density!

Peace,
Macmom

T-Tapp is exercise and I've heard really good things from nice normal people that I know.. enough that I'm even considering it.. and I HATE exercise just to exercise.

Bella - does that mean your doctor wants you to do a low-carb high-fat diet? If so, I can help you if you don't know much about those.

Dawn,
Sort of. She has most of her patients on Weston Price's, Nourishing Traditions way of eating. I am only a little familiar with this, have you heard of it?

Thank you!

Jodie-thanks! I googled, and then saw another thread here at 4Real about T-tapp. I am looking into it,actually! I am going to run it by my doc in two weeks, but I can't imagine why she wouldn't agree to it-it seems to meet the requirements I need. I don't get the complaint about the price. A family membership to a regualr gym is at least $75/month. Anyway, thanks!

I have the t-tapp book. I should get it out and start again. I could feel my muscles ache. It really does use muscles that I didn't realize I wasn't using. LOL

I hate running, but I think that is something that I might have to do. I have been hearing a little voice inside of me telling me I should be doing it for over a year now. I keep trying to ignore it.

BTW-I am 41 and just over 1.5 years post hysterectomy. I gained weight (from stress) around my middle when my husband was in a bad accident about three years ago.

Bella~
My sister is a personal trainer, and this is what she advises:

Anytime that the body goes through surgery of any kind....meniscus for the knee, back surgery for the vertebra, rotator cuff for the shoulder and certainly a hysterectomy, the muscle is CUT. They have to cut through muscle in order to get to where they need to GET TO. This means that they also cut through nerve endings--the nerve endings are responsible for the "feeling" in the body.

One of the most challenging parts of recovering is to get that "feeling" "awareness", "Proprioception" back to the muscle. You'll need to work at this through abdominal exercises that specifically will target your low back issue. They are directly related to one another.

By abdominal exercises, I don't mean sit-ups. You want to target the "propioceptors" mentioned above. You want to get those DEEP abdominal layers to wake up again. Since they were cut during surgery, they were forced into hibernation mode. You want them to wake up and get stronger. When the deep abdominal muscles (tranverse abdominus) get stronger, then they are able to support the spine instead of having the low back be over-used during most daily activities.

The types of exercises (in brief) involve breath with abdominal control. These are seen as Low back Rehab Exercises. They specifically are meant to gain strength through the CORE of the body so that the Low Back doesn't hurt anymore. And when the low back doesn't hurt anymore, you feel better overall, and when you feel better overall, then you are able to be much more active with other forms of activity that will burn MANY more calories and help you loose body fat and tone the body.

Since taking natural hormones, the hormones are responsible for the rate at which the body rids itself of excess weight..........

If all x-rays, etc. have been taken and they're is no problem with the vertebra, etc.

** Begin a rehab-type strengthening program to strengthen the low back, plus a few at-home exercies that strengthen
the whole body..........(no need for a fitness center unless you are looking for that)

This will boost your metabolism, which helps all women to counteract what estrogen does in our bodies.

**Diet...............it all boils down to calories in vs. calories out. Portion control and keep exercising!

HTH,

HTH,

Suzanne, thank you, for taking the time to post this valuable info. What you write makes great sense! I have had several surgeries, although the last two were done through scopes-even my complete hyster! After all of this time, I still have no sensation when I even touch my lower tummy! I don't think I would even feel a needle poked there.

I have just ordered the T-tapp MORE. Are you familiar with that? As I understand it, it does exactly what you are referring to-working from the inside out-from the core.

I just started the South Beach diet(though it's not really a diet-more of a way of lifetime eating). On the days I don't do the T-tapp, I will keep up my walking.

Again, thank you!!

I find cardio really helps me lose that bit around the middle - especially kickboxing but basically any cardio. Sometimes longer and steady, like walking, sometimes higher impact like dancing or kickboxing and sometimes short intervals or circuits...I use workout DVDs but any cardio that works for you would be helpful, I am sure!

Here's another suggestion.

lightweigh.com

Light Weigh is a catholic spiritual growth weight loss program. I personally have never tried it, but a close friend of mine absolutely loves it. She has lost 40# so far and grown in her faith in the process.

Peace,
Jody

You might want to try exercising your abs on an exercise ball. You REALLY feel the results in less time. Much more effective than old fashioned sit ups!
