Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was telling my mom about "The Trees Kneel at Christmas", and she told me two great stories about a couple of her friends growing up.

The first was born with a large growth on her face, which the doctors at the time (1930s) said would have to be surgically removed. But the parents said no, and somehow they managed to get a hold of some Lourdes water, which they put on her little face every day. The growth (which my mom remembers as being told was quite large) very slowly began to shrink, until by the time the little girl was a year old it was gone. The doctors were amazed.

The second story is about her friend Mary, whom she has known all her life.
When she was born, her parents dedicated her to Mary, and they only dressed her in blue and white. For five years, until she started Catholic school, she wore only blue and white. Then the school uniform had a red tie with the navy blue jumper and white shirt, and her parents would send her to school without it, and so they were always in trouble with the nuns    Finally they had to let her wear it.

But isn't that a sweet story of devotion to Mary? How many of us today would do something like that?
