Dearest Ladies,
I am so happy to take up the moderator position on this board. During moderator retreat, I explained that I was feeling pulled away from most conversation at this time, but that the quiet gentle thoughts about Our Lady shared here seemed to suit me particularly at this time in my life, for she has been my saving grace in this great grief.
In thinking of ways for us to reflect on Our Lady and her role in our lives and increase our devotion to her, I thought about the rosary. It is hard for moms to get to their rosary every day and harder yet to pray it without distraction. I thought if we began some threads sharing our thoughts on the various mysteries of the rosary, what we meditate on as we pray, that maybe some fresh thoughts and perspectives would renew our commitment to daily rosary devotion. It is the one thing Our Lady consistently asks of us.
For Advent, the Joyful Mysteries seem particularly appropriate. I'll open each as a separate topic. Feel free to share your own thoughts and imaginings on the mystery, Scripture or quotes from the saints, or links to your favorite rosary meditations, online or in books. If you pray for a particular grace with each mystery, please share.
I hope that together we can build a rich tapestry of thought to accompany each mystery of the rosary and in doing so renew our dedication to this prayer and fall more deeply in love with our Mother.

Thank you Colleen. I missed this while I was gone. I hope to contribute and that others will as well since I find I desperately need encouragement in this area lately!

This is so true, Colleen, so true. It's hard often to say the rosary, it is simply amazing how many distractions can pop up of every kind when you try to recite it (especially as a family) and yet as you said, Our Lady ask for it's recitation.
Just speaking from my experience. I was raised in a family that recited the rosary every night. Our family kept the faith during hard times, when many good families were not aware of things pulling at their families until it was too late. I believe it to be a particular grace, just from my own observations in the past. "The family that prayers together, stays together" (Stays together as a family, stays together in the Faith!) and the rosary is such a special prayer to recite as a group or individually.
There are things I observe now. I KNOW that when we recite this prayer together faithfully as a family, the daily crosses in life seem to 'melt' to a certain degree, life is more ordered, peaceful and productive. I know that when we are not reciting it, I often feel weighed down my crosses to the point of exhaustion...spiritally, emotionally and physically.
Now I have been aware of this for a long time, because I have seen the pattern over and over again in my life. I've commented on this to those around me, family and friends.....so why the pattern at all then, why do we ever had periods of not reciting the rosary if we are so keenly aware of it's graces? I don't really know. What I have noticed is that usually there is a trigger, a disruption, an event or period of excessive busyness that has us missing the daily rosary for a couple a days and then it compounds in some way.
We have just gone back to the daily recitation, my heart has yearned for it personally, I have desired it for our family as a whole. I have found certain things that really help with some of the distractions we can experience and have found helps to try to offset the triggers that wrench us away from this devotion as it has in the past and I think that is the sad thing, it is during times of difficulty and stress in our lives that we don't seem to be reciting the rosary, isn't that when we need it most??
I have to say Colleen, that this idea is rich with possiblities, I cannot thank you enough...I want to hear other ladies experiences, there could be gems that could make a tremendous difference to my life and the life of my family, I am at a point at present where I am open, so very open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, through the experiences and thoughts of others..

I find it hard to say the rosary often because I can't actually hold one (like when folding laundry, doing dishes, etc) and I loose my place if I get distracted (which I easily do ). I have tried to think of things that have a numerical meaning in the decade I am saying, for instance, on the first Hail Mary I would think about one word (fiat) and on the second, I would think of two in conversation and on the third , the blessed trinity, the fourth, well,I kinda run out of ideas of what to think of when I hit the higher numbers, but I try and it helps me stay on track better than if I didn't do it. I am eager to hear any others' ideas too as I love to learn from all of you .
ETA Fra Angelica's book on the rosary has some very good thoughts to meditate on too.
