Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Today is one of my favorite apparitions of Our Lady. In 1830 Our Lady visited St. Catherine Laboure in the chapel on Rue de Bac in Paris.

On one of our adoption trips we stopped in Paris on this day and visited the chapel. I asked about this apparition and wondered if there would be any special mention of it. Nothing was planned and no mention made of it.

The feast of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal is November 27th. Our Lady appeared again to St. Catherine later in the year 1830 and at this later apparition requested that the medal be made. Our Lady appeared in the way she is depicted on the medal.

But, I just really love the first apparition that was all for St. Catherine. The mother/daughter relationship revealed on July 18th is such an inspiring example. St. Catherine kneeling at Our Lady's side with her hands on Mary's lap, talking about the future, the need for perseverence and God's grace. It's just one of my favorites.

That is beautiful. Our pastor is in France this week. He was so excited about all the wonderful stops he was going to make. I am pretty sure he said he was stopping there as well.

It is such a beautiful apparition! And I too, love the beautiful image of St Catherine resting in the lap of her Heavenly Mother - how tender and loving is that?

I am so happy this is such a special day to you personally, enjoy the day!

Hi Helen,

How did you learn about this date? Where does the November 27th date come from?

From one of my favorite books,
St. Catherine Laboure by Fr. Dirvin (Tan Books)
(The book is available on line at EWTN's site. Just search for Dirvin)

The Nov. 27th date is another apparition of Our Lady to St. Catherine. St. Catherine was in chapel with the other sisters saying prayers (probably the breviary) when she saw Our Lady.

Our Lady appeared the way she wanted the medal depicted and asked for the medal to be struck. So, Our Lady was further away. It was less of a personal apparition. The date of the Miraculaous Medal apparition is the November date.

Even though I said the July apparition was for St. Catherine, there are some things that took place that we all benefit from. In July, St. Catherine saw the rings on Our Lady's fingers and Mary explained that the rings which were bright and shiny showed the graces that people had asked for. The rings which were not lit up symbolized the graces that people had failed to ask for.

Fatima and Lourdes also have several apparitions and different things happened on different days.

Thank you Helen. That is so beautiful! I became very attracted to St. Catherine when I read Catholic Stories for Boys & Girls to the kids 6 years ago or so.

Thanks for the book recommendation. I tend to learn about the saints mostly from children's books .
