Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi All! We are just beginning to study Greek mythology and I thought a fun craft I could tie into that would be weaving on a loom (as Penelope did...) I know nothing about it. Does anyone have experience out there doing this type of thing with children? I found this loom at Magic Cabin. Does anyone know anything about what to look for when buying a loom?
Thanks!

These small peg looms are nice for beginning and just testing the waters of the craft. You can really serious about weaving and get some really nice ones! But anyway, we just have a small one similar to this one and it is fun for my daughter to do little projects. We got ours from Corp of Re-Discovery which is a great online source for history items (owned by Katie Newton who is/has been on the CM list and this forum).

You can also make one really easily -- get a wood frame and nail nails evenly spaced on two opposite ends -- this works great and is really a cheap option, especially if you want to make one for each child.

Kids Weaving has great easy weaving projects and the supplies are inexpensive. Also, check your library for books on weaving -- there are lots of ethnic styles and tools that you might find to be a fun rabbit trail....

Hidden deeply inside the 4Real Learning website is this weaving unit. Scroll down (watch out for the hopping sheep ) for ideas for weaving, sheep, etc...

Thank you all so much! I did a search, but couldn't find anything. These links look great.

And this is perfect because our favorite winter book is "A New Coat for Anna" AND we are re-reading Little House in the Highlands next month. The lesson is creating itself. Yay! Thanks again!

JennGM totally helped me out by finally finding this link that I've been looking for Weaving Projects. I thought it would be nice to have it over in this thread as well! Enjoy!
