After over a year of planning we finally have our new kitchen. (Well, almost. Still waiting for counter tops!)
I'm so happy with it and so thankful for my husband who ended up doing most of the work.
When it comes to new cabinets (hickory) and wood floors what have you found to be the best product for cleaning? I really want to keep them nice for as long as possible!

Congrats on the new kitchen how exciting.
We use Branch Basics http://www.branchbasics.com/ for all our cleaning. It is amazing and safe, even for my 3 yr old to use. I use it to clean our cabinets (and everything from the floor up) when need be and in 6 years (started with a new house) our cabinets look as good as the day they went in. Also, being its a concentrate you only have to use as much as recommended or less. I find I can use less then they say to still get the job done. BTW I just love the product, don't sell it or get anything for this

I've read many conflicting opinions on this, but when we had our wood floors installed, the company that put them in told me to use water and white vinegar, mop and dry them them. I get comments on our floors 18 years later (we did have them screened and redone once.) I think they look really nice.

It all depends on the finish of the wood products. Modern finishes don't need much and a bit of mild detergent (like dish soap) or vinegar will likely be good. Rinse them clean (I tend to do mostly plain water washes with the occasional one with soap).
Muphy's Oil soap is great for some woods but depending on the finish it could leave a greasy film on it.. not fun on a floor

When we get the countertops in I'll post some pictures. It was so funny when we got the floors done and there was absolutely nothing in the room. All my younger kids were laying on it and sliding around on their backs. The amish man that helped my husband probably thought they were all a bit nuts!

Counters are coming Friday!! Whoooo hoooooo!!! I've never been so excited. However, I now know I can live without a sink or stove in my kitchen for 5 months and not lose my mind ... at least not all the way!

That's funny, our kids do the same thing on the new laminate floors in our house! I thought it was kinda funny, but must be a kid thing, huh? The bad thing is if the floor hasn't been swept yet that day, they stand up with dust/dirt on their back and hair. But, they sure have a lot of fun with it, I love to hear their giggles.

I had to finally get a chance to stop in and tell you HOw HAPPY I am for you. I can so very much relate to the excitement over a new kitchen. Our old house was a mobile home dh had when we got married, I was okay with living in it until we could afford something better because the blessings of a good husband/marriage/family and living out in the country were far more important to me than worrying over temporarily living in a dilapidated mobile home. It wasn't until we moved into our new house and look back that I realize how bad the kitchen was. I/we thank God every day for the blessings of the new house, and I especially love the kitchen and laundry/mud room. I love cooking in our new kitchen, and it makes me so happy every time I look at it.
So happy for you you have a new kitchen!
