Where to you buy fish? We eat a lot of cheese pizza and bean dishes on Fridays and other "no meat" days but I would like to incorporate more fish into our diet. I just hate to buy it because I never know how fresh it is. We live in Michigan so we don't have any of those great "just caught fish stores" that coastal dwellers have. We all like salmon, but again, where to buy it. I saw some at Sam's Club last week that actually looked pretty good, but at $6.00+ a pound, I was nervous about buying it.

In the past, I've bought the wild caught frozen Salmon at Whole Foods. It's about $11 for a package of two filets although sometimes it goes on sale for about $10. Lately I've bought the Simply Balanced frozen Salmon at Target. The package says Wild Caught. It was about $12 last week at Target and it had 5 filets in it.
I've seen frozen wild caught Salmon on the websites for some of the local farm clubs where we sometimes buy meat. So you might want to check out your local sources for grassfed meat. Eat Wild is a good source to find local farms.
There is a website that I can't find now that had good advice for what to look for when buying fish, e.g which fish should be wild caught, avoid fish from certain countries, etc.
You might also want to consider eating more canned Salmon because it's much cheaper. WF and Trader Joe's both have canned wild caught Salmon.
Most decent sized cities have good local fish stores. However, in my experience they are pretty expensive and WF and Trader Joe's are cheaper.

Costco which is like Sam's will get in pretty decent fish from what I understand. But so few here will eat it that I don't buy it.

I buy sometimes at Costco, but usually at our international store since they've got a great fish department and they're constantly flying in fresh and frozen fish -- in all price ranges.

We get ours straight from Bristol Bay, but when we lived in New Mexico I found that Trader Joes had some really excellent and well-priced frozen fish. I bought their salmon, tuna, and Mahi and it was all very tasty. And I am kind of a fish snob having lived in some of the best fishing areas in the world--Alaska and the Florida Keys, so not easily impressed by store-bought fish.

Oh Theresa, I'm so jealous! I thought of you as I was writing my post. We have friends with a son in Alaska and when they visit him they always bring back fresh salmon. Yum!
We don't have a Trader Joes or Whole Foods around here, alas!, but maybe I'll try the salmon from Sam's Club.

I am also a fish snob. Nothing like people announcing on the VHF that there is fresh fish at the dock, come and get it!
I tend to buy a whole Pacific frozen salmon and fillet it myself or bake it whole. It seems the most cost effective. We have fish from Lake Winnipeg and the north but it is very pricey.
