Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Words.

I have been thinking lately how I can be more frugal with my speech.
I tend to be repetitive, bark orders, and even babble on occasion.
That whole think before you speak thing seems really appealing to me right now.... especially when dealing with my dc.

Anyone have any good strategies for this? Something akin to an internet timer for my vocal cords would come in handy . Least said, soonest mended, right? Oh, and speaking less would up my listening time as well.

In other frugal arenas, my big score this week was my local newspaper.
Harris Teeter had a coupon for $10 off $50 in their weekly grocery ad. The same day another store I shop in had a fall coupon booklet full of great grocery deals.

Now, we don't get a daily paper (more of being frugal), so normally I wouldn't run out on Wed and buy a newspaper. But I do subscribe to the coupon blog of a local mom for area deals. What a treasure trove that has turned out to be! On Wednesday she posted a message that said: BUY A PAPER TODAY. So I did, and my 56 cents bought me a $10 off coupon, plus all the coupons for the other store as well. That was worth my time.

Tomorrow will be the last day of my one month couponing experiment.
I have been keeping my savings total, and so far, by combining coupons with store deals, I have saved $544.38 in one month.

I don't know if that is good, bad or average in the coupon world, but it represented a significant drop in my monthly grocery spending. I got many free items as well ( free with the sale plus a coupon). By using using Saving Star on line ( paperless coupon system) I also earned a $5 Amazon gift card.

So now I have to humbly eat my hat and take back all the grumbling I've ever done about those weird mega-coupon ladies. . It works.

Dancing Daughter's class has been challenged to avoid using negative words about themselves. She is finding this challenge, well, challenging! We're our own worst critics, most of the time, and she is finding this out now.

A useful exercise for us all, perhaps...

Love, love, love the couponing experiment results! You inspire me to try again to save money in this way.

Our opshopt (thrift) still has the sale of 50c per clothing item. I picked up a womans' size 24 silver top and a girls size 12 top. Then I cut the woman's top up and made a knight's armour from it, top and under helmet,(chainmail look) and the girls top with a bit of judicious cutting became the over tunic. This was one of ds5 birthday presents, he loves it.

Awesome, Erin- you are so creative!

Thrift stores have ruined me for paying more than $1 for clothing.

Nancy-

I feel as though I am just scratching the surface of the coupon world.
If I had a smart phone, I could cash in on the iBotta coupon system.

If I had a Facebook account and shopped more often at Target, I could use the whole Cart Wheel thing to save big time.

But my time is limited, and I can't go rushing around to every store with kids in tow,   I did, though, realize that within a mile of my dd's ballet studio there are two grocery stores that I normally don't shop in because they are not too close to home. So now, instead of sitting through her classes, I take ds and we "coupon".

Ds much prefers this to hanging around the ballet studio. He told me yesterday: "Well, coupons sure do make life more interesting!".
