Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Anyone have a good bulk pie crust recipe to share? My MIL makes 20+ at a time with a 5lb bag of flour and a 3 lb tub of crisco. I'd like to make a bunch all at once, but I don't like shortening. Do you think I could just sub 3lbs of butter for the crisco?

(her's is similar to this one.)

yes you can sub butter for crisco.. it will change the texture of the pie crust so you don't want to overwork the crust or the gluten will develop somewhat making the dough more stretchy to work with and changing the finished texture and of course it'll have a butter flavor.. lard or one of the palm "shortenings" would be a better choice for maintaining the texture.. there is water and milk solids in butter that you don't find in the other fats..
