Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've been busy in the bargain book bin at Amazon this week! It's one of my favorite places .

Some of my finds were:

Fantastic Ships
This is a hardcover book, spiral bound, part graphic novel... and it includes five ship models to build! The models are cardstock but have nice detail and include the Titanic and the USS Constitution. For under $6, this is so going under the tree for my ds this year.

Extreme Sports
I caught this deal on Prime for under $2, though I see the price has gone up now. I was able to see the full deck on ebay, and it is a card game featuring tons of info about extreme sports. Did you know that extreme ironing is a sport? There are world competitions. Don't you want to get out your ironing board now? DS will enjoy these... stocking stuffer.

12 Wild Mazes
Hardcover, by Roxie Munroe. This is a wordless picture book that looks awesome... the mazes continue from one page to the next.

A Small Miracle
One of my favorite Christmas books... this is a paperback edition for about $3.

Ellie at Bibliozealous has more great finds.

This is a great time to think ahead to Christmas gifts. I love to give books... that must be a shocker, I know

I also love to find unusual books like the ship book... whatever keeps my kids reading is good!

Melinda
I was going to suggest Ellie's post, alas and alack Amazon isn't a cheap option with freight for here.

Well I managed to get to the opshop(thrift) yesterday and scored. Brand new pair of sandals for $4! Swimmer shorts, rashie(sun) shirts in excellent condition for several family members for $22! a few readers and a set of 4 stainless steal containers and my favourite is a cake stand. It's just beautiful The kitchen items were only $6.

And I gave away 8 boxes of books, I feel so much lighter. I know that's not a find but my experience is you be generous to others and generosity finds its way back. Not that that's my motivation but I like to be generous, it's a good feeling.

Oh and this week a huge bag of clothes came in the door from a parishioner, with clothes for my boys in mint condition.

Great finds, Erin!

And you are so right- whatever you give comes back to you a hundred times over.

We went to a fun, frugal craft even at Lowes last Sunday.

Lowes (Improvement Store) has craft clinics for kids that involve some really nice woodworking projects. You have to register for the events, but they are FREE . Registration does tend to fill up, so sooner is better than later.

Last Sunday my dc made wooden GB Racers... one of the planes from the new Disney Planes movie. I didn't know what to expect, but these were nice, hefty wooden planes! My kids have been playing with them all week.

There is another clinic coming up in September- making wooden fire trucks. link
In October the craft is a shelving unit.

The kids also got a free Lowes apron and safety glasses.

Today at the Target dollar spot I picked up packs of laminated cards for multiplication, addition, division, subtraction and ABC practice with the dry erase marker for $.50 each.

Gave away 8 bags of clothes to various friends today and then found oodles and oodles of more needed clothes for grand total of $40.

Winter clothing was done to 50c a piece, we're planning on cutting the jeans down to shorts Very durable, not as likely to end up with holes as cotton pants.

Great finds, ladies!

I was traumatized this weekend at the fabric store...
all clearance fabric was reduced an extra 50% at JoAnne's this weekend.

This is a great time to find fabric for only $1-3 a yard. I like to sew, so I love this type of sale.

So, I got there right when the store opened, but there was already one man inside the store, and he was piling up the clearance fabric bolts into his cart.
Yikes- I started to sweat. But then I thought: he'll take what he wants and there will be plenty left.

BUT NO! He bought every stitch of fabric on 17 bolts, plus he raided the remnant bin and took all the nice cotton pieces.

It was like being in some type of bad dream... I never had a chance.

Awesome Jodie That's one area I've found over the years to save in. Think ahead to birthdays/Christmas and grab the really good specials.

That reminds me of MY tramatic anti-frugal experience last week. I made a large order with Cath Kidston during their big sale afew weeks ago. I had CHUNK of my Christmas shopping done and was so relieved to have it out of the way so early. I got a call from my credit card company asking if I did indeed place the order (international), confirmed, and thought that was that. Turns out, the message from CK saying that my card didn't go through went into Spam, the order was never processed, and all the clearance was gone by the time I realized it two weeks later since I was just being patient about the package given that it was an international order.

So, now I'm trying to deal with the fact that NONE of my Christmas shopping is done.

That's horrible, Lindsay!

I know credit card companies are really monitoring international transactions; I made a large international purchase recently and the seller told me to call my bank before trying to use my card online. I suppose I will have to do this every time I place an international order, based on your experience.

I have not done any shopping this week except for food for houseguests/parties, but now our big celebratory weekend is over and I am going into Live on Beans mode. We will have a lot of extra expenses this school year and I'm hoping to offset them via extreme frugality.

All this shopping trauma makes me want to give up shopping completely! I guess that is pretty frugal. Thanks

That is so discouraging, Lindsay .
I always like to get my Christmas shopping done early, too, so I can enjoy Advent for what it is.

Aagot-

After trying to find girls size 6 wide shoes for my daughter the past two weeks, I also feel ready to give up shopping.

I have- she really hates the Mary Jane style of shoe, though, and the current version at LE does not get good reviews like the old ones used to.

She really likes ballet flats... but they are just not out there in a wide size.

I even had her try on womens shoes. She wears about a size 7 women- same as me!

We finally did find a pair of size 6 girls ankle boots at Target that she likes. Not my pick, but they are decent enough (though a bit warm to wear still) and SO MUCH BETTER than the bedraggled pair of ballet flats she has been wearing all summer. They were just awful by the time we threw them out. I was starting to feel very desperate...
