Hi,
We want to change which kids are in which bedrooms. The task just seems so overwhelming, and I wondered whether anyone had any tips! Part of the problem is that I'm not sure whether the changes will be short-term or long term.
Ds 15 is moving from his basement bedroom to the smallest upstairs bedroom (currently decorated for a young child), where we can keep a closer eye on his activities (such as goofing off--nothing nefarious). Dd 9 is willing to try the basement bedroom, but it worried she may be too scared, so that may be temporary. Ds 5 and dd almost-2 will be in the biggest bedroom (which is currently very girly).
So, for now, would you just move essential stuff like clothing and a few treasured items, and see how it goes? Or is it better to switch all the belongings around (I'm afraid they may think they're miserable with the switch, when really they would be fine with their "stuff")? Or should be bite the bullet and move the furniture, too? (I'm really hoping you won't go for that option!)
Hope this makes some sense--things are a bit chaotic here, but I really wanted to pose this question to ladies who have done this before!
(BTW, Dd 9 is the only one who really has a choice about where she will end up, because I'm not entirely happy with the idea of putting her in the basement bedroom.)
Thanks so much!

can the girls be in the girly room and the boys in the other upstairs room. the basement one could be for toys, etc. if space is an issue, how about clothes stored in the downstairs room?
God bless,

Ds 15 is mildly autistic and it would be best if he could have his own room for times when he's overwhelmed by sensory issues, etc.-- he just needs to be closer to the rest of the family.
If dd 9 decides she can't stand the basement room, then either she and ds 5 would share the largest room (with changing in the bathroom, I suppose), and almost-2 would be back with me and dh (where she is now), or all three would be in that larger room.
Hmm.

how about 15yo in small bedroom. other 3 together in large room (change in bathroom) and toys in downstairs bedroom. you could put a divider (low bookshelves?) in the large room and make one side boyish, the other girly.

OK what I would do is to go ahead and move everyone and not worry about the room decor (how about a coupon at Christmas for decorating items? )
Then I would move the two into the large room and the older boy into the small room for sure since that will definately be happening.. but I might ask oldest son if his sister could use his big pieces of furniture for a few days and let her try sleeping downstairs.. you might even have her do that while the rest is being set up .. and then you'll have a chance to see how she does and then depending on that you can just move everything upstairs (furniture-wise) or then move her stuff down there.

Thanks, ladies! I appreciate the advice--especially since I don't understand my own original post anymore.
We already have a toy room with plenty of room, so that's not a problem, thank goodness. Clothes are going to be the sticky thing. Thinking about having them take suitcases to their new rooms for now.

So, at the moment, we're betwixt and between.
Baby is still with us.
5yods is sleeping in big, girly bedroom with 9yo, but keeping clothes in his old room and changing there.
15yods is sleeping in small upstairs bedroom, and keeping his clothes and changing there (though most of his possessions are still in the basement room).
Meanwhile, we are still cleaning out 15yo's basement room! This could take until Christmas! 15yo is motivated to do it, though, because he wants to move his furniture up to his new room.
Thank you for the suggestions. I may post more questions if needed!
