Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

It occurred to me today that Thanksgiving is THIS WEEK. I started thinking of sitting down to make my plan and plot when to make things in advance and what order to do things on Thanksgiving day, and it hit me:

We eat the same food every year.

Granted, last year was the first in many we'd done Thanksgiving at home instead of Michigan (we've decided that while seeing family is just wonderful, if you are visiting Michigan annually, it is pretty much the most dismal time of year to go ), but when planning the menu and consulting with dh and the boys, I realized that it is the same food as last year and will likely not change much, if at all.

So, in the past hour, I've photocopied all my tried and true Thanksgiving recipes (including my favorite illustrations for how to truss and carve a turkey) from the various books and online sources (this is a favorite!) and organized them in a single binder. Now, I can sit down and plan my last minute shopping list and my itinerary for the next few days without flipping and juggling, nor will I need to juggle and flip quite so much the day of (I used one of these indexed tab dividers my husband rescued from some old items being thrown out at work).

Anyway, I plan to type up my plan (and if I have time, a full grocery checklist, though I have most of what I need just from memory over the past couple of trips to the store) and stick it in the binder since it will probably be the same every year, too

Tell me what you do for breakfast! I'm not sure what to do.

I'm doing Southern Sausage Balls and Crudite/Antipasto type stuff for munchies until dinner, probably around 3:00.

Then, we're having
  • Roast Turkey
  • Stuffing
  • Maple Ginger Roasted Vegetables with Pecans
  • Cranberry Casserole
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Gravy
  • Pumpkin Pie with Whipped Cream
  • Cranberry Upside Down Cake

And, for Leftovers, we like Emeril's Turkey Bone Gumbo.

Breakfast!! Well - usually what ever they want!

Menu:
Turkey
homemade cranberry relish/suace
stuffing
sweet potatoes (with the little marshmallows on top)
green beans
gravy
creamed corn like dish
2 pies - this year both bought at a local bakery

I've discovered that it's not the cooking thats hard - its the cleaning up after!

We don't have a breakfast tradition. Usually the kids find whatever they want, while dh and I cook!

Here's my menu:
turkey
lots and lots of gravy
mashed potatoes
roasted sweet potatoes with butter
stewed okra and tomatoes
spinach Madeleine (a really rich casserole)
cranberry relish (my sauce has apples and oranges in it)
homemade rolls (dh just added French bread, too!)
pumpkin pie
caramel cake

My family is not too fond of stuffing (bread *or* cornbread) so I'm skipping it this year.(a daring move on my part!)

Lindsay, I love the idea of collecting the recipes.
