Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I came across this blog post from last year.

http://www.littlelucylu.com/2011/03/40-bags-continued.html

And I thought, what a neat idea! I really liked how she planned her areas. No blank stare about where to start.

Since my pantry challenge is nearing an end, or at least hitting an evolution period, where there isn't enough to really make a complete meal with what is on hand, I figured it was time to declutter something else.

With Lent starting in a week, I figured this was a good good timing.

Oh THANK YOU!

I wanted to do this last year, but I was just too pregnant to take on anything and I had since forgotten about it.

Now that I have been reminded I am SO doing it this year!

I love this idea! Thank you! My family's financial situation is difficult right now - and it occurred to me that, if we donate the things we purge, that could be our Lenten almsgiving. Plus the kids are learning to simplify. PLUS the house gets cleaner!

Great idea. Perfect for Lent. I think I'm already overwhelmed, though . A bag every day? Ooooh! I definitely won't be able to enjoy as much time on 4Real Forums if I commit to that ! I'm starting my list...

I couldn't wait to get started!

I am officially starting on Wednesday for a 40 day countdown, but I won't count the ones I pulled out this weekend.

I decided to tackle the freezer. I had many things that were old, we had purchased a side of beef and pork, and there were things we wouldn't eat. SO, I gave them to some one who feeds raw meat to their dogs. I took out a full bag. I found out that my freezer and bread are not a good combination, I'll no longer be freezing it.

I defrosted it and now I have I fresh slate :) I know exactly what i have!! Love it.

Now to go tackle the fridge freezer.

I started the de-cluttering on Ash Wednesday this year, too. We live in a moderately small home but it always amazes me the amount of stuff that gets crammed within it's walls throughout the year!

I found that to help make sense of the 40 bags in 40 days, like the little lucy lu post, I needed something to keep me accountable and to map out the way. But I also wanted something pretty to look at, and not just some other piece of paper cluttering up the house :) If you, too, are like me, You can find the page I created here free to download and print. I hope it blesses all of you in your Lenten spring cleaning!

I just blogged about this yesterday. My list is on the post. We have had bags and bags come out of the closets so far! The big boys are still in transition. Good to have more to move on to for me! Definitely need to go to Costco for a BIG box of bags

How is everyone doing? I am behind, we ended up really busy, but I'm not giving up on the 40 bags. I have about 6 bags to drop off this weekend, and will likely have more than that before I finish the weekend.

I had a break through with dh recently. He has been wanting a new tv for the living room, he only watches the news up here, as he has a big screen down stairs. His parents gifted us with a sound system this week, so our 25 yo system that takes up 3 shelves is not gone. Well he hooked it all up, and said, what a great picture this tv has. I looked at him and said, why do you think I don't want to get rid of it? The LCD pixelates. He said he knew that, so i asked him why would he want to spend more on something that will give us lesser quality than what we have. And he just looked at me, and decided we'll keep this one until it dies. WOOHOO. I know he wants to upgrade, but I'm content with this one. I am the one that uses the livingroom, my little people watch tv here, not him. So he has backed off.

We were able to remove 4 large components, a huge laundry bin of VHS. so yay!!!

I'm working on it. Maybe a little behind, but not too bad. We had a house inspection for a refi and an out-of-town week-long visitor. Both were quite an incentive in my bag total!!!

Good for you about the tv! I also think the older ones were made to last longer. Laughing about the sound system. Back when I was in high school, it was all about how big of speakers you could get. I took to college two speakers, that were so wide and tall, we used them as end tables!

Is anyone thinking of doing this during Lent 2013? I'm hoping to!

Me, too. This is fantastic, especially as we're absorbing things from my mother's house in the wake of her move. Time to move some things out of here.

I am planning on doing this, too! I get Flylady emails, and her version, Forty Boxes in Forty Days came in my mailbox on Monday.

There are some good decluttering tips on her web-site, too.

I think clothes are going to be my biggest purge area.

I'm going to try, again.

Last year I made a list of areas in our house, from large ones like the pantry and laundry room to small ones like one short bookshelf. When I was finished writing, the list had 40 items!

If I can find it I will go through it again. Some of the areas were things I saved for Saturdays when we weren't schooling and the boys could help.

You can do it!

My husband asked if we really had that many bags worth, and I said, yeah. The bags don't have to be a particular size, so if all you do is a grocery bag, its good

Heck, I get a grocery bag full of junk mail every week

I am thinking of rereading Splendor In the Ordinary/Hallowed Be This House by Thomas Howard to go along with this for Lent.

I'm constantly decluttering, so I don't know if I can do 40 bags anymore...that being said, every time I pray and ask God why I'm overwhelmed I get that nudge... "let it all go!" Unfortunately, I'm down to mostly books as "clutter". *fainting*
