Hi all,

I was wondering if there are certain products that are gd to use to clean kitchen cabinets that any of you all would recommend? What IS the best way to clean them? I have used Murphy's Oil Soap in the past, sprayed them with Orange Glow a few times, but sometimes I just use 409 or something and maybe that was a bad idea? I have honey spice finished, cherry cabinets. The lower ones have some water damage at the sink too. Not sure what to do about that. (looks darker and moldy) and the kids KEEP spilling the dishwasher detergent in the under the sink area, which has damaged the wood there too. The upper cabinets still look pretty good, but I wanted to a really deep clean for the cabinet fronts soon to get off all the grime etc. Thoughts? Recommendations?

WOW! NO ONE cleans their cabinets? Well, now I don't feel as bad I guess. I guess I was trying to ask how to clean them once one has possibly put a layer of film on them from cleaning them incorrectly...with things like 409 or just water and dishwasher soap from a clean rag for a quick wipe down. They are just looking a little dull from them.

So, one more try and then I guess I will give up and just go with Murphy's Oil soap again. Sigh....

soap is what makes a finish dull.. you probably just need to rinse after using dishsoap or 409 and it'll be fine. If your finish is wearing off or if you never had a finish on it then an oil would probably need to be wiped onto them to give them a sheen and keep them from being dried out after they're cleaned.

But using dishsoap or 409 should be perfectly fine with to clean with.

I just use soapy dishwater (I wash my dishes by hand and wash the entire kitchen at the same time). But I live in apartments, with less than quality cabinetry :)

I've been watching this thread to see if there is anything better, but it sounds like we're both basically right-on :)

Well I've loved using this for all of the wood in my house since I was introduced to the idea.

I love love love the results. The wood comes out so shiny, rich and warm looking.
