A friend is due to give birth to her 5th child this month. I was told by her husband that they are not having a Christmas tree this year. I totally understand especially considering that their 2yo would definitely try to climb it and it would be a constant source of stress I would love to see them have a "tree" though. There is something about those lights and decorations. I am trying to think of a "tree" that I could make and put lights on and very simple decorations that are in no way dangerous (made of card stock perhaps?) and something they could put their presents under. It would be great if it was something my kids could help with since they would love to give this gift to their friends. I would of course clear it with my friend before starting the project. It would need to be something that couldn't be climbed or pulled over and I would love to be able to include lights. I have tried Google, but I am not even sure what to search for. Any ideas?? Thanks!
Beth

What about a small tabletop tree like this?
What a nice thing to do!

How about a felt tree that could be hung on a wall?

These look pretty neat. I'm not sure how you would go about making your own if you didn't want to spend the money though.

in college one year I "made a tree" simply by putting the lights up on the wall (I think it was in front of a window so I attached the lights at the curtain rod).. and made the lights in the tree shape.

I think Grateful's idea would look fabulous and should not be hard to make. I would make a frame out of heavy wire, maybe you could find coated wire even. I am picturing a long triangle with rungs horizontally so you could attach the greenary etc. I bet green twist ties from the grocery store would hold most things on. You could get the greens, pine cones etc from Michaels. There are some awesome felt, paper, or wood ornaments your kids could make.
Can you tell I want to come over and help!

Oh, I really love this! And I was planning on making a wreath with the girls so the same supplies would work for both. Thanks!

Is there a tree in their yard that could be decorated outside as a Christmas tree? That way the 2 yr. old would really have limited access.

My friend mentioned that as a possibility, but it actually could serve to cause more danger. The 2yo is somewhat of an escape artist and she certainly doesn't need another thing to entice her to go outside
