.... one that does not tip easily and has an iron holder on one end. Also- can't be too huge. I need something more kid friendly and safer. I'm always afraid they are going to topple my current one (which is a bazillion years old)

I'm looking for one, too. I'm using the one my mother received for her bridal shower...46 years old. It does the job, but dh wants something sturdier.

good luck.. the new ones are very lightweight and less sturdy than those old heavy ones as far as I've seen.
I've pondered getting something like this but usually decided being locked into a single location would bother me too.

My MIL has an ancient wooden one that is nice. Mine is almost too sturdy, super heavy. Dh pulled it put of the trash years ago while still a bachelor. You might try goodwill since ime, the older one's are heavier than the newer, which are flimsy. It's a trade off, though, since the weight makes it more work to set up.

We couldn't the drop down one, because my husband irons backwards -- on the wider end. He insists his mother did. So we're always playing the war with turning the board around. He would be very frustrated by the one in the wall. (And it would prove I'm correct.  )

I had one built into our wall when we had our house built. I LOVE it.

 No. I'm sure it is just that everyone except his mother irons wrong.
I actually like the little one that can sit on a table top or bed for every day things. But, of course, a larger board is better when ironing many things or something large like curtains or tablecloths.

Mine is 27 years old...a bit flimsy, as we've managed to knock two irons off it (and kill them). I'm pretty territorial about my new Rowenta iron these days! (As in, keep away from the ironing board and don't use the iron. Ever.)
I, too, have found that newer ironing boards are very wobbly. I've used them in hotels and at friends' houses. If mine were to die, I'd be haunting yard sales, estate sales and thrift shops.
