I don't have either. I use to have a crock pot, it broke and then there was all the bruhaha about whether they had lead or not. So I never got around to replacing it. That was over a year ago.
Last winter I really really missed it. So I need to find something!
We love rice and eat it probably several times a week, either plain, in a Mexican dish, or an Asian dish or some sort of casserole. But I don't find it a pain to make on the stove top either (I always buy Costco's jasmine rice).
Anyways. I don't know if a rice cooker is easier and/or tastier, if that is even possible. And I think I have read you can use the rice cooker like a crock pot.
I know the beauty of a crock pot, I guess I'm looking to see if anyone has a rice cooker that they find wonderful and would work as a crock pot too. Or do you think it's best to have both...or do you think don't bother with a rice cooker and stick to the crock pot?!?!!

I would not use my rice cooker as a crock pot. I love my rice cooker but it only is a rice cooker.. well maybe a steamer.. if you're good with cooking rice on the stove.. the only reason I'd change that is if I wanted to get it out of the house in the summer (we can put the rice cooker on the patio in the summer and keep the heat out of the house)

I love a rice cooker, but would not use it as a crock pot. I definitely prefer it to cooking rice on the stove because of the fix-it-and-forget-it easiness of it. Even the kids can make rice with the rice cooker.

I have a rice cooker (26 years old) and two slow cookers (not 26 years old...I killed my wedding shower one a couple of years ago). If I had to choose, I would take my slow cooker, hands down. I can cook rice on the stove in 20 min. I can create a full dinner in my slow cooker and head out for three hours of late afternoon activities, knowing dinner will be ready (and tasty!) when I get home.
My older rice cooker takes the same amount of time as the stove, but it is automatic, like a slow cooker...which is the nice part. You could get around the automatic issue by cooking rice ahead and storing it in your fridge or freezer; it reheats well if you add a tablespoon or two of water to it (stove or microwave).

Our rice cooker broke years ago and although I make rice every day for my husband's dinner, we didn't bother replacing it. It's almost as easy to make on the stovetop, and when it broke, I decided I would rather buy another saucepan/pot than I would a new rice cooker. The kinds of things that I use the crockpot for (beans, soups, polenta) wouldn't transfer well to the rice cooker, so I would pretty much only use it for rice, and it didn't seem like a good use of my counter space, even with daily use.

I have both (my Asian mother-in-law thought no household is complete without a rice cooker - LOL). I like my rice cooker, but I don't find it to be a necessity like a slow cooker is.

I could not live without either in my house, but I don't use the rice cooker as a slow cooker per say but I do mix it up a bit with the recipes in it.
I had to laugh, I HAVE NO IDEA how to make rice on the stovetop!!! We have always owned a rice cooker, (I'm Cuban, this goes with my platanitos that came from my mom) I make all sorts of rice with all sorts of things in it as well as boil potatoes.
I use them both at least 3 times a week and think they are BOTH indispensable!

We have rice all the time, but I cook it on the stovetop, and I find it easy.
We have a rice cooker and I've used it all of two times, each time I've been dissatisfied. I used it for our FHC party, and apparently there is no shut-off, so it kept on cooking and cooking -- no one ate it.

I personally think that rice tastes better when cooked on the stovetop, but I use my rice cooker all the time because we have an electric cooktop and it takes FOREVER to get down to a low heat so you either need to constantly watch it or it could burn. Not worth the trouble IMHO! You can steam things in a rice cooker, but cannot use it as a slow cooker. (You can put veggies in at the end in a separate level of steamer in my rice cooker so that is really nice.
I could not live without my slow cooker.
