I accidentally left a library book (expensive) out in the rain today. It was a brand new book so there is no denying it is my fault! What is the best way to minimize damage? Usually, I would put a paper towel between each page, but there are 300 pages in this book. Just the outside of the pages are wet and mostly just the ones in the first 40 pages.

I would put something heavy on it and let it dry closed.. but flip through the pages periodically so they don't stick together.. but being closed and with something heavy on it will keep it flat.

I don't know if that's the best way though.

I put a book in front of the fan. It dried them out but they did look crinkled.

You can iron the pages to get rid of the crinkles.

I have successfully used this technique, seal the book in a plastic bag with 2 cups of rice and stack heavier books on it. Each night flip through the pages so they don't stick. Replace the rice if it is too damp. Depending on how wet the book is, it should be dried out in a 3-5 days.
